He hasa force of men now at work repairing the break on Farnam stroet near Thirty-first. ‘ Miss Abbie C. Casey, aged thirty- one, died at her home at 1622 South Tenth street, yesterday. The remains will be interred at St. Mary’s cemetery this morning. Services will be held at St. Philomena’s church at 9 o’clock. F. W. Melcher, president of the Omaha Panorama company, has gone east to examine a_new painting to ex- change for the Battle of Gettysburg, now on exhibition at the corner of Eighteenth street and St. Mary’s avenue. The Pennsylvania association met yesterday afternoon at the board of trade rooms. Reports were received showing that #404 has been reccived by the association for the benefit of the Conemaugh sufferers. The good work will be continued. The wife of Mr. Con Norris, a well- known Union Pacific engineer, died at her home, 1411 South Thirteenth street, yesterday morning. Funeral services will be held at St. Philomena cathedral at 9 o’clock to-morrow morning. The remains will be interred in the Holy Sepulchre cemetery. Pedestrians passing the southwest corner of Fourteenth street and Capitol avenue are in danger of bricks, which are continually falling from the new building now being erected there. A very small sign is the only premonition of danger. -The street is blocked with material more than half way across. Complaint was filed before Judge Berka yesterday by Alston B. Wood- dard, charging his wife Sarah with un- lawful cohabitation and adultery with one Ed Walburn. Walburn and the woman were arrested and lodged in jail. Work of Exemplification in Progress in this Oity, Tho Omaha Scottish Rite bodies of the jurisdiction of the United States of America, their territories and dependencies, are hold- ing a two-day’'s session in Metropolitan hall, corner of Fourteenth and Dodge, for the instruction of the breth- ren and tho exemplification of the work. During this time the bodies will re- ceive their charters and elect new officers for the ensuing year. Theso Omaha bodies have a menibership of about two hundred. The four lodges were institutea July 18, 1888, and the membership hm- been incroasie very rapidly. . There aro some persons who indulge in slurs upon these logitimate degrees of Scot- tish Rite Masonry in the United States. These differcnces in Scottish Rite Masonr, are o matter in which no one is interested excopt the bodies thomselves. There are threc jurisdictions of these higher degrees in this country, called respectivel the Jurisdiction of the United States of Ame ica, their Territories and Dependencies: the Notthern Jurisdiction, and the Southern Jurisdiction. Of these three the first is claimed by the members to be the only one which can prove its legitimate origin and continuance. A prominent member of that body, which is commoniy called the Cerneau Rite, said to-day: *“We are ready and wiil- ing to meet anyone on the legitimacy of our bodies in an’ honest, scholarly and gen. tiemanly manner, aud not otherwise, and if the members of the so-called southern jur diction can furnish us evideuce of our being in error, we would willing steps and join their body."
