It was the most appropriate procession of the campaign, and as the by-standers the hearse plumes waiving on the heads of the horses they felt the prophecy of the downfall of the crowd that the plumes told in silence that was cloquent. CHURCH HOWE BE RE THE NOMINATION A prominent citizen of G. county says thut in his presence, botween the ith and Sth day of September, atBeatrice, that Church Howe in the furtaerpresence of J. J. Butler, A, J. Hale and W. W, Morrison, expressed himself on the com- ing campaign in the First district by stating in_ substunce and in fact that though it might not be good republican- ism to say so, but that he would not _sup. port Judge Weaver for congress if he was nominated. These are good, reput- able citizens, and if Howe dares'to deny that he expressed himself in that way they will stand by 1t with aflidayits that hie did say those very things eoncerning Judgze Weaver as the outline of what his course would be if Weaver w renom- mated. This is the same Church Howe who now has his cohorts in Lancaster at work in the whippimg-in proc on Lan easter republicans, who to be hor with - themselves will seratch Howe's name from the tic| The statement of the Gugo counly uien is only another illustration of Howe's straight republic- anism when it 18 not all for Howe. ON AN EXCURSION. Yeste afternoon the new Elkhorn ey just completed to this city, tendered an exenrsion to Fremont and returu to the eity council of Lincoln and a number of their friends who accom- panied them, ‘The excursionists departed over the new line in the best of spirits to sec what was to be seen and get ac- quainted with the new country opened up to Lincoln by the short line north, It was the determination of the council to aceept the road without question for they found'it tirst cla TEACHERS' READING CIRCLES.
