AN UNPUB[ISHED PLOT, A Pan to Got Aw.w with Lottie Combes Falls Throngh to the Mutual Fear of the Men Creating it It has been predicted by many who protend to know the Forbes gang, that an effort would be made by them to get Lottle Coombes out of the way by fair moans if possible, if not, by foul. A vigilant eye has been kept over her by the police. Her goings out and comings in are noticed by the officers and no visi- tors call upon her without the knowledge of the city's protectors. The woman herself is In a constant state of trepida- tion and she is frequensly accompanied to Owing fall her from certain parties who it is said lie tn walt for her, It is the firm belief of those interested in this matter that strenuous efforts have been made to induce her to leave the city. This, how- ever she has refused to do, and fear, it is thought, may drive them to desperation. An unexecuted plot was partly formed, but the mutual fear of its creators pre- vented its being carried out, The man who first broached the subject gave him- self outas one of Sandy Forbes' gang, and was one day last week arrested on suspicion and still Is in jail. The men were drunk and bellig- erent and although the saloon was already | full of customers, and workingmen em- | ployed finishing some interior work, they made themselves boisterously at at home. The boginning of the trouble is a diflicult matter to ascertain, The first intimation that the proprietor, Peter Fedde, received of intended hos- tilities was the simultaneous rush ot the whole gang upon himself and guests, The ruffins seized planks, bricks and coal and attacked the inoffensive occup- pants of the place without discrimination or mercy. Mr. Fedde was struck on the head acd knocked behind the bar, the gang then proceeding to the destruction of turniture and fitting. Portions of the aseailants ran to the pavement and hurled bricks and stones inte the saloon, yelling and shouting meantime like demons, The work of wholesale de- struction was still in progress when Fedde, regaining his feet, secured his pistol from a drawer in tho rear of the bar and fired two shots into the ceiling. This demonstration frightened the mob and thoy flad into the street and disap- peared in tho immense throng which had been attracted by the tumult, Although some very ugly wounds were received by a half dozen or more of the workmen end peaceful customers, none are believed to be serious, Cuta, bruises and contu- sions about the head constitute the chief character of all the injuries. Mrs. Fedde, who from her home across the street had heard the noise, and had started across the strect to her endan- gered husband’s side has received a shock ZTHATCAN BE MADEE = THE:MICHIGAN ‘S TOVE:COM PANY 2 JDETROIT CHICAGO-BUFFALQS = SOLD«EY . = l - = from which it is yet extremely doubtful it she can recover., Belng in a delicate health she was prostrated from the excitement and is still very ill.
