Soma of Judgo Aylesworth's friends thought it waa a sensational report, but it appears now that Tur Bex knew, as it generally does, whereof it aflirmed, The roturns from (ireene county had hoen oanvaesed, and published, but Mr., Me- Dufly and some others went for a rocount of eome of the votes, and in Scranton they with two of the town trustees, went through the count agsin, and claimed orrors had been made. The samo was done in Grant township, Greeno county. The county board mot and inepected the matter, and sent those returns back to the local board for correction, and the state board has allowed the corrections, To offset Judgo Aylesworth's apparent majority of 132, Carroll county’s 120 was allowed, leaving only three. Then in Greene county, in Scranton township the state board took four votes cfl from Aylosworth and gave three to Loofbourow, and in Grant town- ship elght votes were taken off from Aylesworth and given to Loofbourow thus making a difference of twenty two, to offeet the three votes, and thus giving Judgo Loufbourow nineteen majority. Judge Aylesworth’s many friends and supporters will be sorely disapnointed, and among those who gave him their votes wore not a few republicans, who belioved he would be a worthy man for the dis- trict bench. Stlll, personally, Judge Aylesworth should take some consolation from the fact that he can continue to occupy the pesition of judge of the superior court, until one year from next spring, at least, and perhaps for another term of four yesrs, The duties are light, the salary is $2,000, only $200 Iess than that ot distrlot judge, and traveling expenses to pay out of it. Whilo in many respects tho district judgeship is more honorable, and moro satisfactory to & man ambitlous in his profession, yot Judge Aylesworth has a warm nest in which to coddle himself as he thinks over the defeat. He can comfort himself also that he had a majority for the short term, which expires Jenuary lst, and though he will not qualify for ~that short period, still he can get what comfort comes from the fact that he really was elected district judge, though for a term of less than thirty days in length. The most disappointed man is Alder- map Mynster. 1t was well understood that Judge Aylesworth being elected, and resigning the oflice of superior judge, Mr. Mynstor would be appointed by the mayor to fill the vacancy, but it is prob. ably just as well for Mr. Mynster, for the appointment would only be good un- til the next spring election, and it is very doubtful whether the peoplo would elect him to that office and possibly he might not get the nomination, but the appointment even is now swept from him. Judge Aylesworth will probably not contest the election of Judge Louf- bourow, but he has thirty days in which to file his protest, and if he discovers any legitimate grounds on which to base a contest he will then proceed. There are reports that such grounds exist, but investigation will first be made before any action is taken. LS Seal. snc:l\maud fur trmlmlm_u M. To thus crowd a stage involves great risk, even if the companyis a professional one, but whon made up of children and those unused to the stage, it cannot but be more so. The opera house here is probably one of the best arranged in the west, and there is less liability of fire and more chances for escape than in most public buildings, so that the chances are few for-any disaster, Still there are chances, and some special precaucions should be taken, and some responsible persons should see that these precautions are carried out, Added to a stage crowded with children there will doubt- less be a packed house, as there is much interest felt in the community In the sudlence there will be, doubtless, a large proportion of children. Whether there should be really cause for alarm or not, the least thing might cause a panic, and unless proper arravgements are made before hand a great dieaster might follow, From members of the board of education Tuy Bk learns that they have nothtog to do with the affair, have taken no of- ficial action concerning it, and assume no responsibility in it, As many of those who are to take part are school children it seems highly appropriate that the board take some steps to see that the affair is safely managed. Or, the board of health, which has shown such care for the nluty of the public frequenting & condemned church building and a crumbling court house, should see to it that & stage is not overcrowded with children, that exits are left open, that no seats are putin the alsles, that proper persons are on hand to glve their entire attentlon to the safety to the crowd of little folk, and take such other steps as may be necessary sand sssure the public that all will be BEE---MONDAY DEC well. Mr. Milton Nobles is tho author of this play, and he acts in it as the hero, Folix O'Pafl, an Irishman, and, it is needloss to acd, a universal genius, * * Tho aceno of the play s Iafd in New York, and it contains in ita Iast act a surprisingly cilactivo situation, the burden of which ia akillfully borne 1884, The Denver Tribune-Republican Decomber 24 says of “‘Love and Luw."” “Love and Law" is superior to any of the London melodramas which have scored such tremendous successon during the past four or five yeare, and, by ada- ing spectacular effects to ita production, it could be made still more entertaining than it is. Tho play is intensely dramat- 1c nnd seneational and yet it is kept well in hand, and the situations are all within the legitimate bounds of the stpry and its natural surroundings. Itis a better play than “The Streets of New York,” which had a famous run some years ago, and is altogether one of the best Ameri- can melodramas we have. It is well balanced and is cleverly graded to the climax, The supporting company is in every respect excellent. We congratulate Mr. Nobles upon his succees. He deserves it of the more because he has forced recogni- tion from a part of the public which had looked with disfavor upon his work for years, At Dohany’s Opera house Wednesday evening, December 10.
