Other Topics—The Masonio Temple Dedication—The FPress Olub, e, OUR L "OLN LETTE MASONIC DEDICATION, Special Correspondence to Tik Bre, Lixoory, June 21.—To-morrow will be a gala day in masonic circles in this city, for thereis no doubt but that there will be representatives fromall over tho state. The new temple which was fully ces- cribed in last week's Beg will be formally dedicated under the auspices of the grand lodge of the state, Samuel M. Hayes, of Norfolk, M. W. Grand Master, ating i the evening commencing at 8 o'clock precsely, standard time. At that hour the grand lodge will be opened, in ample form and the dedicatory exer- cises according to the ritual will immeo- diately follow. Vocal music will be furmshed by Prof. Fairbrother and a carefully welected choir, After these services Hon, John M. Thurs- ton, of Omaha, will deliver the oration a% the clcze of which the praters and invited guests will adjourn and par- take of the banquet which will be spread in the district court room immediately across the street. The grand ball will follow in the temple, which will fittingly terminate the exercises of the day. The grand lodgo rooms has been most taste- fully and artistically decorated by Mra, Foxworthy and a committee of ladies. On the north wall in very green letters, wofootin length, sppear the words: “Teith, hope and charity.” On tho east, weat and south sides are worde, *‘Wis- dom strength and beanty,” and the rear or east side appears ‘“A. F. and A, M,,"” in evergreen letters, about {wo inches in size. All the committees are completing their Jabors and nothing will be left un- done to make this & red letter reception day in Lincoln for the masonic fraternity. Mr. Thurston is expected to arrive on the U. P. train in the afternoon and he will be met at the depot by a committee. There will undoubtedly be a very large crowd hera to do honor to the day and the ccoasiony SOCIAL SENSATIONS. A weekly writer from this_goodly city might commence each epistlo with a scandal did he so desire just as tho par- son’s Sunday sermon is introduced with a text. **Ihe wooas are full of them” and it seems that heroic treatment is about the only way to bring about less frequent breaking out of these social ulcers, 1 have no less than fonr on the blushing pages of my note-book now, but they are “nuwsty” things to handle even it the immoral morsels are taken up with a golden pen. As far 28 common rumor is concerned they are all ripe for packing vut nasmuch as your correspondent rec- ognizes the fact that every question has two sides he deems it advisablo to post- pone the harvesting of this forbidden fruit for a day or so. OF course the cry and defense of the male participants in thete love-not-wisely-but-too-well episodes is “plackmail.” = Perhaps there may be some truth in this, but then, noman who has the courage of & east-iron dog before a garden gate, will be afraid to stand up before the public if en attempt at black- mail is made—it is too easily proved. One case here involves a banker, an ex state official, and a servant girl. 1t has been going the rounds of scandal-lane for some time and kept quiet becauso of his family. This is » reason that very proper- ly has vreight with tho peopls, but a sober, second thought suggests the query **Why did not the thonght of home and family” in the mind of their head and protector at a more opportune and earlier date. 'the other party to the tranaaction cannot avoid publicicy, by a verbal plea. The natural order ot thing will publish her fall from graco to the world, and the spreading of the news does not even end with death. I wonder if it would exciteany remorse on the banker or any other one who has a child like him if amid the peace, comfort and elegaut surroundings of his home life in Lincoln some one woula pick up a copy (ioldsmith's Deseted Villige and read: An turn thine oyes v he poor homeless shiv'ring female lies: 1 village plenty blest, s of innocence distrest, tage might adorn, ds, her virtue fled, or she laya her head, and shrinking from the Near her botrayer's ¢ And pinch'd with col shower ‘medical men Nature's Sovereign Cure for Consti- pation, Dispepsia, Torpid Liver, Inactive Conditions of the Kidneys, and s most salutary slteratlye In scrofulous affections, With ladies, gen- 1 bon vivants evorywhere it has becorwe of dietary expediont ying the digestive functions and enabling froc-ivers to indulge With impurity at table. For clr tlon, widive Coce Bt., Chicago, L, With heavy heart deplores that luckless hour, When idly first ambitious of the town, She. left her wheel and robes of country brown, Another case is that of the son of & prominent resident here and a comely young hired girl once in his father’s em- ploy. This whole case soems to dwindlo down to one thing and that is that the young couple are in love with each other, and that the parents of the male member of the intended matrimonial partnership aro o strongly opposed to the match that rather than give their consent to the same they would have a scandsl rear its obnoxious head on the community in which their son's name figures unpleas: autly. Now it occurs to us right here that a good, honest servant girl is about as fine a type of womanhood as is gener- ally found in this mundane sphere There are not many families either in Nobraska or any other part of the United States that can go very far past their grandmothers and not find a servaut girl rocking the cradle of their descent aud many of them with ancestors on the oqual escnt American servant girl in t, education ana social standing present class of dudes and skunk- oabbagos who have such & holy horror for #ls and for the labor by which they make a living, were only one-tenth a3 ¥ as the girls sre womanly, then thin would he a far morn practical world than it ie, eud to be cclled & *‘so- maternal line far from being the of the servant ¢ city man,” or a “‘society girl” would not be the desire of the most brainless repre- sentatives of both rexes in existence. However this does not exactly refer to tho case we are referring to, for the young man in question is most worthy in many respects, well edusated and has a successful future before him. As he is not of age of course his parents have the right to criticise his choice, but the ques- dion is “‘what will the harvest be!” courts, lawyers fees, newspaper articles, acandal, ndal, scandal, It is probable that all's well that ends well would be written at the matrimonial finale of this social difliculty, had not some one informed the young girl that her patrician lover was about to dosert hor. She placed her case in the hands of a lawyer, and his conference with pater familina caused the expose. The Iatter claims that an attempt is being made to blackmail his son, that the young girl is not of good character, otc, and that ho will fight the case to the bitter end. On the other hand, the friends of the girl strenuouely deny the impeach- ment as to character. They claim it is a case whero tho rich and proud are mak- ing aneffort to crush out the poor and humble, and that time and the courts will show who is right, In the meantimo the son continues his love for the protty ple- bian maid, and in addition to a bushel basket full of letters sent her before, in all of which promises were made of fidel- ity and love, he has lately written to her since the exposo reitorating his undying regard; his intention to warry her when he becomes of age, etc., all of which shows how ho will probably foel on the woman suffrage question when he is old onough to vote. Should there cases come into court it is very likely thero will be music in the air, and from present ap- pearances it is most probable thoy will, THE PRESS CLUB of Lincoln has got in full working order now, and it has a full membership of legitimate newspaper men., This is the only way that it will ever flourish, pros- por, and be of werth to the profession. Efforts are being made, however, by cor- tain parties in this city, who are as much entitled to the name of newspaper men as n polywog is to that of a aalmon to be admitted to the press club. It scoms that they heard some talk of an excur- sion being made by the * press gang,” and this caught thoir appetizing eyo. Immediately a free correspondence is solicited from some provincial journal, and application for membership in the club will follow. A few such rotten branches will cause the death of any or- ganization, and the press club, as now existing, should take warning. Alroady some would-be dudes of town, who never wrote a ** display head " for an auction dodger, are talking of joining the press cluband *‘doing” vhe shows. No respect- able newspapor men whose journal is meritorious fails to receive courteous recognition from theatrical managers, as well as from all other representatives of laudable callings, and it would bo a saving clauso to put into the constitution and bye- laws of any club that members sceking fuvors from the mere fact that they be- long to the club should be expelled with- out trial by judge, jury or committee. The Lincoln Press club is a vigorous lit- tlo treo now. Let us wait and see what tho additional grafts of membership will bring forth. The first fruit comes from the scion whoso variety is well known, not always from the indiscriminate seeds that are thrown on the pummace heap at the cider mill. The Titzgerald hose company, one of the liveliest lot of fire laddies in the en- tire state and at the same time jolly gen- tlemen all told, have just received a splendid hose cart from Chicago. The company will send a running team to Omaha during the tournament, do the Thurstons had better keep their weather eye open. The boys practice every day and are making marvelous time.
