One of the greatest drawbacks now to the enjoyment of entertainments is the scanty and poor music furnished. With an elegant and commodious opera house there should be some music in keeping with such a place of amusement and the character of the entertainments given. There is much complaint about this and many plays are spoiled on account of this lack of orchestral effect. R "WEDNESDAY APRIL 30, 15, A Salt Water Bath at Home. In order to supply the continent from | sea shore to center, from the metropolis to tho frontier, with sea-water, it is not neces pipe-line, The most excellent way is to| Teduce its bulk by evaporation, and when | old Ocean s dry and clean, pack it away in boxes weighing from oneto fifty pounds, Then send it by expressor freight to its destination. All the saline properties of the sea are intact, and by adding the prop- er quantity of \mh'r to marine salt a bat is_obtained which contains, besides salt (chloride of sodinm), the sulphate and chlo- rido of magnesia, the sulphates of lime and sium and iodine. But while we snummon modern skill and E"(l‘r[\l"lfll" to our service we must remen: ber that the beneficial effect of sea-hathing is not & modern or an individual discovery The salutary results of a plunge into the surf is universally recognized, and its prac- tice in: ve where and when the at- mospheric conditions admit of it. Many persons find its influence over the physi eal and nervous system so healthiul that they consider it essential to spend a few weeks or a fow days at the sea shore, even at great expense or great inconyenience, for they thus hope to lay up a store of health nnd’ strength that will last for months. The record of the seaside resorts of our consts for the past few years shows the great and growing popularity of sea bath- yng. Modern chemistry analyzing tho properties of sea water declare it tonic aind yomedial, & correctivo of disease and a oeuservator of health, LITERARY GINC IREAD WORK,—A godil deal of what passes for literature in these days, is & very poorquality of ginger: bread work, The average modeérn novi mild! enough and fussy enough to satisfy the heart of a Miss Nancy of the longest standing and l‘(wpn-(mlnll(\ Everything is “delicate” or “refined,” the humor is — Bargains in furniture, cooking stoves and household goods. Westcott, of Oskosh, Wis., has decided to locate in this city, and open, next week, a manufactory of trunks of all sorts. Ho intends to occupy Mr. Wood's building on Main street, now oc- cupied by Scott, the hardware dealer. Mr- Wescott has boen engaged in the business for twenty years, and is thor- oughly oxperienced, and he has a well- earned reputation for his goods. This enterprise is one which will be heartily welcomed here, and the prospect is ex- cellent for establishing here a large and prosperous business. — Interests. J. F. Stewart's proposition to settle his claimed damages for change of grado on Main street in front of his store, did not seem to strike the council as liberal as it did the gentleman who made the proposition. He wants his floor raised, vault, doors, iron pillars, ete., ete., changed 50 as to conform with new grade, and says that the city may do it under the supervision of certain Omaha architects and in accordance with their e | plans, or he will do the work himself for $1,340. Accompaning the proposition 18 the estimate of the workmen asto what it will cost. Mr. Stewart proposes in any event to move his goods at his own expense, to charge nothing for interrup- tion,to business and annoyance. The aldermen seem to think the amount too high and the conditions too rigid for the city to do the work itself. The council has concluded to investigate the matter a little further, Itis intimated that Mr. Stewart will enjoin the paving unlass he is settled with. In_ this event he could enjoin only in front of his own property, and some seem to favor letting him enjoin and leaving a spot unpaved there if he in- sists, e ———— To-Day! To-Day!!
