This accumulator, when fuclly charged, is capable of working the tramear with jts maximum load for seven hours, which means balf a day of tramway service. From the accumulators the current is communi- cated by insulated wiro to & Slemeny dynamo placed under the car, aud which acts &8 a motor, the motion bs. ing transmitted to the axle of the wheels through a driving balt. To start the car the current is switched on from the accnmulator to the dyua- mo, and from this in turn to the driving wheels, The action «f the motor, and consequently the direcii m of the car, can be readily reversed by revertiog the current, and the car can also be readlly stopped by shutting off the current rntirely and applying the hand brake with whioch the car s fit- ted. At night the car is lighted by means of four Swen incandeecent lamps, two of which are placed under the roof and one at each end of the car.
