The call will mature May firat. A TREASURY DECISION, First Comptroller Lawrence, of the treasury department, to-day rendered a declsion uoon the fcllowing case: Ta 1880 Johun J. Palllan, a citizan of Tennessee employed a Washington lawyer to prosecute s clalm against the government The claim was allowed and in 1882 a treasury draft was made to Palllan and delivered to the lawyer. The latter clafmed $1 500. This clalin he assigned to the German American Natlonal bank, which faiied and delivered Pallian’s draft to the recelver of the bank. Pailian died In Tennessee. An alministrater was there appolnted to admlnister his affalrs, and an adm'nistrator was appolnted in the District of Colum- bla. The bank recelver applied to the first comptroller to {natruct the treasurer to ry the draft on the endorssment of the district admipistrator, which was refused, ‘because the supreme court had de- clded that in such cases payment must be made to the Tennessee administra- tor. The recalver then field a ored- {tor’s bill ia equity in the district agalost the district administrator. The attorney, by published notice, at- tempted to make the Tennessee ad- mialstrator party defendant. Walsh was on the stand in the star route trial. EX BENATOR KELL(GO sald to-night that he had little to add to what he hes dy sald about Price and Walsh's evidence and Brady's Indictmouts excapt that he was surprised when an Indictment was found and_prerentiment made on the 27th of March last it specified that tho alleged offsrcy was commit- ted on the 17.h of " April 1880, although whatever evidence there was in the case showed the offense, if any, was really committed on the 16:h ot Aprll 1879 and as yestorday was the 17th of April when even by terms preeentment of the alleged cffenae it became barrea, he was natarally sur- prised at the indictment.
