Williame was arrested for maliclous threats, aud his case set for this morning before Justice Vaughan, he giv- ing $300 bail. —In the case of Jerman va, Riley the motion for & new trial was yesterday over- ruled by Judge Aylesworth, and the ver- dict for the plaintiff for 877 therefore stands. In this case it was claimed by the plaintiff that he had bought an ao- count of Cruickshank &Co, against the de- fendant for goods purchased by the latter’s wife and daughters. The defendant re- fused payment on the ground that he was not liable for the debts thus made by the family, the articles purchased not being mecessities, but finery and needless cloth- fng. One of the Sapposed Burglars of Tenney's Jewelry Store Nabbed. A Goodly Portion of the Prop- erty Found. Since the burglary of Tenney's jew- slry store by which $1,000 worth of goods were taken the pplice have been on the hunt day and night following up every possible clew. It waa learn- od that one fellow was trying to sell s watch and some rings, and Immediate ly search was commenced for him. Officer Cusick from the description given of the fellow, sized up & man walking alorg Broadway and took him in charge. He watched him closely while on the way to the s*ation to pre- vent his dropping any goods he might have in his possession, aud after getting him inside searched him thoroughly, but could find mnoth- ing. He then remembored of the fel- low taking one step aside as they en- tered the city building, and, takiog a lamp, he went out and looked about. There in the snow just by the city building was a watch and several rings which he had evidently dropped Tae prperty was identified as some of that belonging to Tenney’s stock. The man thus arrested gives his name as O, G. Kempton. Tt issaid that he just served a term in the pepitentiary at Lincoln, Neb., and that he was one cf Jim Middleton's notorious gang. A man by the name of Jones, liv- ing at Tabor, Jowa, has known the man Kempton, he haviag lived in that place some time ago. It was through this man Jones that the case hos been worked up so far. Jones was met by Kempton, who offered to sell him a watoh and chain to get money enough to got out of town Jones refased to buy, and after part- ing with him his snsplolons were aroused that possibly the jewelry was a part of that stolen. He looked back after the man and noticed that he disappeared from sight in the vicinity of the Deere building. Jones notlced that Kempton had a valise, and so in accordance with his snspiclons he notified the polico. From Jones' doscription of Kempton the latter was fonnd and arrested. Yestordsy a search was made to ascortaln whero the vallse was. After somo hunt it was found secreted near the Deere bullding, and it was found to be full of jewelry, which has boen {dentified as belonging to the Tenney stock. The plunder thus recovered amonnts to several hundred dollars, bat does not include all that was taken from Tonnoy's store. There was also found in the valise powdor and drills, indicating that safe blowing was not an unknewn art to the owner of the grip. Burglars seem hovering aboat yet. Sometime Sunday night they visited the residence of Thomas Owens, & well known farmer, living not far from this city, They falled to secure any great amount of plunder from the house, but they made a haul from the atore of provisions, getting away with about 860 worth of meat. A Whole Family Found Insensible Owing o Coal Gas, Oharles Rice, the tailor on Main street, and his family, had a narrow escape from death by asphyxls on Sunday last, The coal stove In thelr sleeping apsrtment let out gas during the night In sush quantities that, as they slept, they fell into more and more of a stupor, until by morn- log they were in a condition where life seemed to have wholly fied. It was & mere chance that thelr conditlon was discovered in time to resusoltate them. Mr. Rice's brother- in-law called at the house, and not being able to arouse anyone he be- oame suspicious that something was wrong, and, forolng an entrance, found Mr, Rice and his wife and little two-month-old babe in bed in an ap- parently lifeless condition, Dr. Cook was summoned, and, after much effort, succeeded in resuscitating them, The babe was not so nearly gone as Mr. Rice and wife, the little one's face belng covered by bed clothing, and this somewhat protected 1t from the gas, Mr. and Mrs, Rice will suffer for several days from the ecffect of the deadly sleep, but they may well con- gratulate themselves on their escape from death, Salmon, mackerel, canned shrimp, smelt, sardines, pickled oysters, cove oysters, brook trout, mackerel in mustard, mackerel in tomato sauce, and everything in the fish line at F, J.
