Ploasant and Davenport, looking after the insane patients sent from this county to the asylum at the former place and to Mercy hospital at Davenport, They report that they found the pxtients being well taken care of, and everything in good shape. They stumbled on cne bit of information which will be of interest, that one county in this state has a contract with Mercy hospital for caring for patients at the rate of $12 a month, whereas this county with- out » contract is paying $16. This fact will probably lead the board to make & reqular contract with the hospital. The county now has 32 patients in both placer, and in every case the county pays for the treatment, although some of the patients have property, or have friends abundantly able to pay, ~As an instance of how timid the suthorities are about tackling any of the houses of prostitution, it is stated that i examining into & case befcre the last jury witnesses testified that a certain house waa one of ill fame, and, while the proof was right there at hand, the grand jury failed to take any steps toward indieting, 1t has been a long time since any such in- dictment hus been found, and the grand jury did not seem disposed to change the custom of looking at such matters with one eye shut and the other one squinting The grand jury caunot be scored too hard, however, in view of the fact that this city practically licenses such places at a unt. form price for good, bad or indifferent, The great clesring out saleat Hark- ness, Orcutt & Co.’s. cfiers a rare op. portuni'y to get gocd goods cheap, — - Crystal Roller Mills Patent Granu lated Ficur, Saperlative A, the high- eet grade of flour manufactured Snowy wkite, pure, light and sweet Atk your grocer for it and you wili have none other e, o e Childrer: heavy school 0 hose at Harkuess, Occutt & Co.'s. — - WOOL LINED.
