The boomerang he had pre- parod for them rebounded on his own head, and intlicted a deep wound on him in the form of dollars and cents, to him the most condign punishment which could have been inflicted. When an order for them was izsued by Judge Bencke, Bernatein refused to pay the amount. An execution + | was issned and placed in the hands of Jonstable Rodney Datcher, who levied on a horse and bugey belonging 1o Barnatein. The latter's wife came in and replevined the outfit under the pretense that it was her property. Besldes the replevin of the horse and buggy, Bernstein's wife commenced o suit beforo Justice Wright, claiming 850 00 damages from Rodney Dutcher by reason of his unlawful taking her personal property in execation cf her husband’'s debt. The damage case was to be heard yesterday, but wirs postponed unul Mon pay next. On Thursday evening a woman of middle egoe and respectable appearance called at Marshal Angell's oftice and made inquiries as to her husband, who had failed to show up for some Oritchfield, for such was her name, stated that she had left Colum- bus a few days ago with her two chii- dren to go back east, her hutband who was with her there promising to join her in Omaha the next day. She ocame down to thia city and put ap at one of the hotela near the depot. This was on Taesdsy night and her husband should have put in sn ap- pearance on Wedneaday, but did not andin fact nothing had been heard of him at the time sbe called at the police oftice, The poor woman thus ffound her- self without money or triends, with two chiliren to ook after, among strangers, BShe had looked every- whore about town for her husband, evon in the gambling houses, but without success. The theory of the accident is that the man was sitting on the platform of ove of the ecars on the Denver tratn bound west and that he must have been intoxicated and was thrown from the steps by a sudden lurch of the train, The papers and letters npon the person of the d<ceased reveal only two names, one cf which was J, C. The coroner’s report shows him to be a large, heavy set man, with dark whiskers and mcuitache tinged with gray, and Clemmons wes a very pow erfully built man with whiskers of the cut described, although scarcely gray woough to be perceptible without cloge obgervation. It ia also true that Clemmons had at one time lived at Grand lsland, and it is possible that the papers found on his porson would ot be dufinite enough to show just what his name was, It ie not known, however, so far as can bo aseer ained, that Cle mong was_ever addicted to the use «f liqror, In fact eo for aa Tur Ber veporter’s acqnaintange with w extended, he never eaw him toko a drink at all, nor saw him h d to be under the n the least d ¥ bo nothing bu' a I wting ore ena, and not only the pub'ic ac , bat the « flicors of the city ecur* »e anxious to hear whether there trath in it, A FALSE ALARM, The following item from the Fre- mont Tribune would seem to «ffectu- ally settlo the rumor that the man ro. ferred to sbove was Dae.
