The man was being turned over it,accidentally, Marshalltown parties are ready to go ahead and build a street railroad, but the council appears to be unwilling to geant & charter which the contractors consider rea- sonable, It is not likely, according to tbe Des Moines Register, that the oase against polloe court again Saturday afternoon, on the charge of frequenting houses of ill-tame, Georgs's wife, known as Belle Clover, was there aleo, acocm panied by two of her soiled doves, prepared to testify against the trio, The informations were found faulty and the ceses dismissed, but new informations were at once filed, and they pleaded guilty, and esch was fined five dollars and costs, The csse againet George Gerspocher for keep. ing his ssloon open after hours was aontinued until to morrow afternoon, this being also based on complaint of Belle Clover. Another charge, of aseaulting one of the wirls, was lodged before Justice Frainey against Graves, and that case was continuad until next Wednesday From ail this hubub it appesrs that Belle Clover is determined to shake 'er George. In advertising a medicine it is best tobe honest; deception will never do; the peo- ple won’t stand it, Let the truth be known that Burdock Bleod Bitters cure scrofula, and all eruptions of the skin, This medicine is eold everywhere by drug- gists. DOUBLE ENTRY. A Charge Made on Each Side In the Settlement of Saloon Men and their Customer. On Saturday a man named Warren Gabriel was arrested for the larceny of ascarf, and the examination ¢f the case revealed the fact that he had spent most of the night before in Moss & Gikney's saloon, playing cards and drinking, and having no money had shoved up his scarf for securlty, until he could pay up in cash Satur- day night. Early In the morning he tried to get more |drink, and not be- ing able to do 8o, took the scarf and tried to pawn it on Broadway. Judge Aylesworth held that the contract en- entitled to his scarf just as much after this contract as before. He therefore discharged the prisoner, but took occasicn to preach a very pro- traoted sermon on the text afforded by this revelation of saloon life. He expressed the wish that hé could le- golly send the man to jail for thirty days, for it was aggravating and a dis- grace to see men shoving up their m | olothing for drink, when citlzens were endeavoring to afford relief to the needy. He thought there ought to be some way too for enforcing the or- dinance, so that saloons ought to be closed at such late hours at night, and such men compelled to either go home or stay on the streets. After the larceny case was disposed of, & com- plaint was entered agalnat the saloon "|men for keeping open after hours They pleaded guilty and were fined §6 nd acosts, which may serve as a warn- ing not to do any more ‘‘peep o' day” business, Miss Harris' Recitals, The last of the aeries of piano re- citals was given by Miss Lydia Harris on Saturday evening at Mueller's music hall, These recitals have both charmed and enthused those of the mausio lovers of the city who have at. tended, and all were convinced of the justice of the claim that she is not only an artist of unusual merit, bat that she shows such gedius, joined with culture, as will soon place her in the very front rank, Her execation of the most difficult relections is al- most faultless, and she imparts so w uch of the soul power in her inter- * | pretations, her touch is so sym pathetio, her playing so full of magnetism, that she moves the emotions of an sudience, as uo merely mechanical renditions, how. ever perfect, can do. It s in this, more than aught else, that she shows that genlus claims her as one of its own, One very remarkable feature of Miss Harris' recitals 1s that she plays through the entire programmes entirely from memory, aud there are stored in thls wonderful mental re- pertoire about two hundred of the most difficult compositions of the best masters, Miss Harrls goes from here to Tabor, where she will favor the ocllege students with three recitals this week, thus affording them a rare chance to hear the masters of music falthfully iuterpreted by ome who her- self promises at no distant date to be known far and near as one of the leading of planists. — The Olover Field, George Gerspocher, his brother Tony and Charles Graves were in the We prosent no protended mirnole— ‘Trath {s mighty and must pre- vail."-No Sophistry can withstand the power of its honest utteranoce.
