Ia tho afterncon the market was rather quiet and with only fractional changes, though there were a great variety of rumors about the pros- pects of the settlement of the railroad war, until the market was suddenly depressed by a reported dispatch in regard to sup- posed outting on Gould roads. Mr. Gould in reported to have said late this afternoon that there was no truth in the report that the dispatch referred to had been received from General Manager Olds, and that there was no cutting and would be no cut- ting of rates on his roads.
