One of the United States deputy marshals here became aware of his presence in this city and swore out a warrant be- fore the United States commissioner, charging James with robbing the United States mails, For some un- koown resson, however, the deputy wade no effori to arrest his man, James left for Missouri Monday morning. Field’'s Infernal Machine. Bpecial Dispateh to Tur Brx. Cueyesne, Wy,, October 0.—As- sociate Justice Field passed through this atternoon on his way from San Francisco to Washington. Your cor- respondent showed him the dispatch respecting the infernal machine sent him, Judge Field said the machine was received by him January 10, 1866, an account of which was pub- lished the next day in Washington papers, and also appears in Judge Field's book, ‘‘Reminiscences of the early days of California. The machine was recently taken to a gun- smith in Washington, under the judge's orders to have fulminating wder removed to avoid accident, 'he judge further said that the man whom he always suspected of sending the machine died several years ago, and the strangest part of his acton was, that Judge Field's decision re- specting the title to’ the ground on which San Francisco stands, was real- ly beneficial to the man, although he believed himself to be ruined thareby, and hence sought to kill Judge KField, — . The oldest one +had succeeded in getting out of the burning building with her mother, when sh~ rushed back for her little sister and had dragged her through the smoke to the head of the stair- way, when the floor fell with a crash and both were pitched headlong into the burning mass below. Collision ot Trains. Bpecial Dispatch to Tus Bxn. & Cevar Rarrps, Ia., October 6,— A freight and wrecking train on the Burlington, Cedar Rapids & Northern collided to-day, wrecking sixteen cars and both engines.
