mening Star, TWO CENTS. The Jeannette Investigauon, No witnesses were examined by the Jeannette Ddoard of inquiry to-day, the entire session being devoted to the examination of log books and other documentary evidence. All the circumstances connected with the adoption of the Jeannette into the naval service were reviewed, and a close scru- tay is being made to ascertain Whether or not the recommenilations of the naval board providing for the proper preparation of the vessel for such S:vere service had been faithfully observed. ‘The Comet. OBSERVATIONS TAKEN THIS MORNING—NO SEPARA- TION IN THE NCCLEUS. Another observation was tal morning at the Naval Observatory, but besides the elongation of the nucleus and the discovery of anenvelope no change was observed to have taken place since the last observation on Thurs- day morning. There was no split or separation observed in the nucleus. There was, however, noted condensation in the nucleus, which made points much brighter than the surrounding mat- ter, but the spaces between these points were con- nected, ‘This sime thing was observed on Thurs- n of the comet this day by Prof, Frisbie- ported sep: Cineinnat ashvilie and J not then and does not now Tegard it as aseparation. ‘The condensation ob- served was a point in the upper part of the nucleus, a longer one in the center and another in the lower end. On the north side of the comet a telescopic observation showed a bright band of light well defined, and also a smaller one on the south side. Thisis known as the envelope of the comet, and in this instance extended beyond the head.’ A bare spot Was observed in the tail, Capt. ampson, Who made the observation, reports that envelope on the north side is almost twice the Width of te tail, and on the south side about the same width as the tall. The nucleus ts becoming more elongated and the condensations very notice able. Another observation of the position of the comet was taken by Prof. Frisbie this morning, but no computation of the orbit has yet been Made. Another observation will be taken before tis is done, In order to secure accuracy. “ Whe Archery Tournament.
