PIGHTING POR LIVE STOCK The Chicago Times says; ‘It is now admitted by the officials of the Chicago roads that the Union Pacific railway company is not conniving with the St. Paul for the diversion of the live stock traffic to the latter routo., The officera of the St. Paul road complain that the Union Pacific is discriminating against them in re- fusing to write (hrough rates or issuo through bills, They have even gone 80 far ag to invoke the interferenco of the pool lines in compelling the Union Pacific to accord the St, Paul the samg working arrangement ns is vouchsafed its competitors. But the investigation has doveloped the fact, it is claimed that much the larger part of the live stock shipments is coming eastward over the St. Paul's new line. Last Sunday seventy fivo car loads were dispatched from Council Bluffs. On Monday two trains were dispatched. On Wednesday 160 empty cars were standing at Council Bluffs awaiting tho delivery of stock in trans- it over the Union Pacific. The St Paul management has been quiotly drawing upon tho Union Pacific for such men as could be of benefit in se- curing the trans-Missouri cattle traf- fie. Mr. Clark, general superinten- dent, was the flrst onedrawn from the Union Pacific staft, Ho was followed by the live stock agent and the man who issues passes to live stock ship- pers. These three omployes, it.1s claimed, can control the liou’s share of the live stock traflic of Nebraskn and Wyoming.” STRATEGY ME BOY, “A strategic feature of the situa- tion is the fact, gathered from official sources, that the cattle men in Ne- braska are driving their stock from the Union Pacific ranges north to the Sioux City & Pacific railroad, and the theory is that concessions from tariff are being obtained from that line. ‘The Sioux City & Pacific is operated as a direct connection of the Chisago & Northwestern, Incidentally, there- fore, suspicion lodges against the Northwestern, but the officials of that company declare their innocence of any participancy in rate cutting in Nebraska, Right here it may be said that the officialn of the St anlgsaxe | Lapsduit ured 0% s that they have not uoted ratos from the Missouri river at loss than tariff.” T =T T i of Omaha, on Monday, the Gth day of | Septomber, 1882, at 2 o'clock p. m., { for the purpote of electing delegates o Eig bras tember, [ 11th day ¢ | jd at Omaha on the mber, 1 s to th h rena- ovent to be Id be en- 8, and cach h ward of the oity will titied to seven 7 country pr w o entitled to threo dolegates, to the coumty c vention J3 vy I The ¢ holding primaries will First Ward—Eastorn hotel, Second Ward - Joseph Cavan's Third Ward—0'Counor’s, Twelfth | and Douglas strects.
