ALEXANDRIA, August 25 —Reliable information has been received from the interior 10 the efloct that the Nile is rising rapidly but is much below the level reached by this time last year. Lord Dufferin therefore pro- posed that the English and Turkish commanders should first deliberate together and if the Euglish govern- ment should not approve the pro- posed operations, the lurkish com- mander would atill be at liberty tosatry them out. Said Pasha then urged that the landing of Turkish troops in Alexandria was indispensible for tho futare combined action of the two armies. The Milwaukee Getting the Lion's Share of Business, Pool Punished. Special Dispatch to 11k Bra, COurcaco, August 25, —The manage- mont of the Chicago and Omaha pool lines held a mooting to-day. The principal question considered was the recent heavy diversion of live stock shipments to the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul. After thorough inquiry the discussion was reached that this decision was not due to cutting of rates by the latter, nor to any traflic arrangement with the Union Pacific, but to the concurrent action of the shippers, who oppose the pooling sys- tem and the arbitrary system of]*‘even- ing up” which result therefrom, whereby the shipper is not allowed to decide by what line his consignment will be taken. The meeting accord- ingly decided to do away with the “‘evening up” and inatructed the joint agent at Omaha to allow shippera to select the route over which to ship live stock.
