Thence by the Texas division of the Missouri Pa. cific railroad we are carried across the Indian country to the Red river, a distance of 250 miles, Tho ccuntry all along the line of railway presents very nearly the same appearanco. It is mostly lovel, at times gontly undu- lating, and, at a few places, small hills and ridges are seen rising to the height of probably fifty to seventy fect There is some growth of timber, most- Jy alorg the streams, but the general surface presents a continued sarenoss of prairte grass. It is a question meriting neri ous consideration, whether the broad acres of nutritious, velvet grass, with which this beautiful country abounds all the year round should not be for- ever dedicated racred to the raising of cattle. The rich soil, the mild winter, if, indeed, it can bo called winter, and the nutritious ingredients of the grass, afford pasturage for millions of cattlo, such as can be found nowhere clse, Kansas and Missouri, once cattle pro- ducing States, are now almost stricken from the list. Wo had very good wild turkey for dinner at Vioita. Good meals can be obtained at the railroad restaurants for fifty cents. There are plenty of fish in the mountan streams. The Arkansas and the Canadian are the principal etreams, At Talequatz, the capital of the Chereokoes, a fow miles ens’ of Mus kogee, is the finest school building in the territory. The school furnishes educational facilities equal to many of our colleges, A number of tho Chero- kees are graduates of this institution, Tho women enjoy facilities for being ’ tHOB.
