Qorrespondence of The Bee. Troomsen, Neb.,, August 4.— Your correspondent being obliged to remain in Tecumseh a few hours longer than he had business, gleaned a fow facts that are of intereat to your wookly readers. Wednesday evening one of the bold- ost and most daring robberies of the yoar transpired. A farmer namod Lawson tied his team to a rack in front of a dry goods store, and at about 8 o'clock in the evening, two strangers untied it, got in the wagon and drove off. Aboat 10 o'clock the owner, getting ready to go home, started for his team, but, like the Irishman’s flea, “it wasn't thar!” e started in pursuit, but at this writing has heard nothing of or from them, Taesday evening a youny, well-to- do farmor named < Webb, was gathering wood near the rail: road track, an an approaching teain frightened his team, ic running upon the track, and one horse was killed and the other so badly hurt that it died within a few hours. The team was valued at 8180, Johnson county—in fact, all south- east Nebraska —reaps a golden haryest this year. In this county oats, fall and spring wheat, made better crops than for years past, and corn is sur- prising “the oldest inhabitant.” Politics, the great man’s destroyer, waxeth hot, the fight being made now lying principally upon the senator, Hon. J. E. Lamaster, an influential farmer and prominent man through- out the state, and Hon. J. 8. Dew, an aspirant for United States marshal, being the two candidates. The con- vention will meet the later part of this month, Lamaster being a man in every way qualified for the position and an avowed anti monopolist; two tise the paper man, whon he was him- self promptly saved from annihilation by the efforts of his associates. No blood was shed. But ono thing is certain, unless & great ‘‘chiange comes over the spirit of our dreams’’ the people this fall will forever scttle the supremacy of rail- rond cappers and bossism in the coun- ty of Johnson, “Dox" RISING OITY {ACKET. Correspondence of THE Bre, Risisa Ciry, Neb., August 4,— Our town is rejoicing over the new elevator (f Col. Roberts’. It is one of the finest in this part of the state. Since the late raina corn has fuirly “jumped” and in making fair progress. Outside of the district struck by hatl the crop will be large. Inside of it o great deal of acreage will go from ten to thirty bushels, Harvest is well Crops of small grain are, without any exception, good. A county alliance has been called to moet at the county seat on August 26th at 11 o'colek. alliance undoubtedly runa ticket of its own, as the other partics aro in the hands of men who have no sympathy with the anti-monopoly clase. The senat rial convention for the E'ev- enth district meets at Oakdale on Septe easential points his opponent does not possess, it Is generally conceded he will be the lucky man. The senator is elected by Pawnee and Johnson counties. Two new churches are in pro- g‘cn, the Catholic and Universalist, th, when completed will be fine buildings. This gives Tecumseh six churches, and ’twould be a godly town were it not for poor hotels. To stop thero a week would make even DeWitt Talmago a sinner. Tke Pawnee City base ball club played a gamo with the Tecumseh nine, the game resulting 29 to 7, in favor of Tecumseh. The court house yard took our eye the moment we saw it. A new court house to take the old one's place would be a decided improvement, The railroad from Brownville will be completed about the 20th of th month, and rumor has it, will be b on to Beatrice. With politics, religion and base ball Tecumseh flourisheth and prospers. ber Hith, The Neligh public school building is being overhauled for the fall term, About forty students will attend Gates college at Neligh, this se won. State exchanges predict a light water- melon crop. Republican City boys find turtle eges in the sand along the Republican river. It is probable a telephone line will soon connect Fairmont ind Geneva, arrange. ments to that effect being in progress, The Valley connty republican conven- tion will be held at Ord ou September 4th, The M church at Ord will be dedi- outed on September 3d. The Torchlight had accused the bosses of seouring votes by railroad passes through their agent, a meck eyad deputy U. 8. marshal; this together with other itoms which had appeared from time to time in the columns of that paper—the uprising of the popu- lance as against Bossism—and the probably downfall of the railroad can. didate, had driven that person to des- peration.
