The trial of Joe Botts for assault with intent to commit murder yester- day occupied the time and at‘ention of the district court. The testimony showed that the notorious darkey, Botts, who has already served in the Neobraska penitentiary, joined with hls white men, Murray and Dock- steder, in & plan to rob Mr, Stude- beck's house in Keg Creek township, they learning that he had a large amount of money on hand. They went there, and masking themselves entered the house, Studebecker jump- ed out of » window and ran,was chased by Murrsy and Botte, and brought back to the house in the hope of forc. ing him to tell where the money was, They succeeded in getting a fow dol- lars only, but in the scuffle one of the party shot Studebecker, inflicting a wound which came near proving fatal. Botts denied that he was the man who fired the shot, though he admitted he was in the party, He claimed that Murray was the one who shot, and neither Murray nor Docksteder have been found yet by the office The case was fully and ably argued by District Attorney Conner "and Mr. Daily for the defense, and was sub- mitted to the Jur' yesterday after- noon, The twelve' were out about an hour and a quarter, and returned a verdict finding him guilty as ed, which is serious enough to send him across the state. His sentenced will probably be pronounced Monday. e RIBBONS | RIBBONS | !
