FLEET FLYERS, A Good Track and Some Very ine Races, An Fxoiting Contest in the 2:36 Trotting Race, which was Won by Lady Kearn. An Unfinished Pacing Race to be Completed To-day. The track, which was very heavy the opening day, was in very much better condition yesterday. The officers of the association had put teams and harrows to work on it, and the brisk wind and the sun dried up the mud and left it a little rough at first, but the clods were broken up and left the course in first class condi- tion. The Juvenile band opened the day’s programme with some excellent music, after which the 2:36 trotting race was called. Tho entries in this race were Ironclad, by Y. Q. Perrin, Wisaer, Neb,; Lady Kern, by Wade Carey, St. Joseph; Georgie, by G. A. Hatton, Baline, Kas.; Duster, by Porter, York, Neb.; Napper and Iron clad drawn. The horses were sent off for the first heat with a good start, with Georgie in the lead, Lady Kern second, and Duster third. These po- sitions were unchanged until the three-quarter pole was reached, when wdy Kern came forward, and a very The horses were sent off in good shape at the first trial and Big Sam took the lead and kept it without any trouble to the finish, Vasco second, Lone Jack third, Time 2:32] T the second heat Vasco wook the lead but was passed by Lone Jack, who was a long distance ahead of both the others but broke and lost his ground, fell back to third place and the horses reached the wire, Vasco first, Big Sam second, Lone Jack third, Time 2:36. At the close of this heat claims were made that ths driver was pulling Lone Jack, and the diiver was dismounted and Charles Wilson put on the sulky. When the horses were brought on the track for the third heat it was discovered that Lone Jack was minus a shoe and the race was delayed until one could be put on. When the horses were started Lone Jack imme- diately took the lead and kept it to the wire and finished three lengths shead of Vasco, Big SBam distanced, Time 2: Lone Jack, who had broke ba n the two previous heats, sors, as were alsg fourtesn proposi- tion for membership. Adjournment was taken untill after- noon, and on the recovering of the association the hoard of censors re- ported favorably upon the maiters refered to them, which repurt was adopted The committee on legislation pre- sented a hopeful report of progrees, through the chairman, Dr. Gailbert, which report was received and adopt- ed. The several bureaus ‘o whom had been given the task of presenting papers and thoughts on various de- partments were called upon, also a number of interesting and 1pstructive papers were read, followed by discus- sions, and the relation of experience in the treatment of various cases. Dr. Bonton, of Waterloo, read a paper on ‘* Puerperal-Eclampsia.” Dr. Griffith, of Burlington,. pre- sented one on ‘‘Approving of Sa- binia,” Dr. T. J. Roberts, of Washington, gave one on ‘‘Kali Phos.” didn’t al\ip’n step and when he came under the wire ahead the driver, Chas, Wilson, was enthusiastically cheered. The horses atarted off in good shape and Lone Jack took the lead and kept it until after he passed the half mile, wheu he broke and fell behind and was unable to regain the loss, and Vasco won the heat in 2:364, Chas. Wilson, the driver, reported a dog ran out of the rye and broke the horse all up. The men who are backing Lone Jack, and who claim that the driver was attempting to sell the race, claim that this is only an- other chapter of tho scheme to beat the horse, and there seems to be some reason in the belief. The other heat in the race was postponed on account of darkness nntil this afternoon. Below is the summary of the race: Vasco. ... 21 2 1 Lone Jack. 31 2 exciting contest took Khw all the way down the home stretch between Geor- gie and Lady Kern, which ended in a dead heat between these two horses, with Duster a considerable distance in the rear. Time, 2:36§. The horses were sent off for the second hert with a good start, Lady Kernleading, Duster 20d, and Greorgie third; atthe half the positions were the same and at the three quarter they were all together with Duster in the lead, Lady Kern 2d, and Georgie 3d. Georgie and Lady Kern went to the froat down the stretch and finished ahead with Georgie alightly in the lead. Both horses had broken badly . —Charles Wadsworth and James Fitz ‘were yesterday arrested by Chief Field for beiog drunk and annoying re:idents on Miller street, They forced their way into Kkitchens, begged impudently for food, and all the way round and were set back for rimning, giving Duster the heat in 130 The horses were given a splendid start for the third heat and Duster took the lead, closely followed by Georgie, with Lady Kern third. The positions remained unchanged until the three-quarter pole was reached, the contest tor the lead between Dus- tor and Greorgie wae very exciting and close, but Duster rotained the position to the fiaish, with Laly Kern 21 and Georgie 3d. Time 2: This was the mos interesting heac trotted dur- ing the meeting, and the winner was greeted with a hearty and prolonged cheering as he went under the wire without making a break or a skip in thy entire mile, The horses were given a good start, but Daster broke badly and fell be- hind snd never gained first place dur- iog the heat, but broke every time he came near the front, The contest for first place between Lady Kern and Georgie was very close up to the home stretch, when the former in- creased her lead to about two lengths, and won the heat in 2:38, The horres were sent off on the third trial for the fifth heat, and Lad; Kern took the lead, Geo: Becon Duster third. At the half Duster had crowded to second place and was at Lady Kern's sulky wheel, but broke ack to 3d, and the horses finished, Lady Kern first, Georgie second, Duster third, Time, 2:38} At the close of the heat charges of foul driving were preferred by the driver ot Duster against the driver of Lady Kern, but nothing was done in the matter, In the sixth heat the horses were sent away the second time with a good lead and Lady Kern took the Jead and held it throughout the heat The second place alternated between Dus. ter and Goorgie, but Duster finished second, a couple of lengths in the rear o"‘ibldf Kern.
