The grab was defeated. The United States district court jury in the suit of the United States ageinst the Pacific express company for §20,000, supposéd to have been stolon from a safe shipped from Loav- enworth,returned a verdict at Topeka, Saturday, for the plaintiff in the sum of $22,833.33, principal and - interest. The express company. give notice of & motion fora new: trial and the court adjourned till Monday. Tho professorship of the new testa- nient, lln%mge and literature, at the Andover Theological seminary, owing to lack of harmoney with the semina- ry creed, is vacant, This makes the third vacancy in the faculty. Ho has been sixteen years at the Andover seminary, succeeding’ the famous Mr. Start. “'The estimato of the Kansas state board of agriculture made in' March last is being sustained by the reports of the assessors now being sent in to | K; the county clerk. The decrease in the agreage of wheat will amount to 50,- 000 acres, or twenty-five per cent. The reports of correspondents now in- timate that the yield of wheat will be heavier than at any time in the histo- ry of the state, so that the crop can- not fall below 25,000,000 bushels. An increase in the acreage of corn is shown in all counties that have reperted. ' All kinds of farm animals have had ‘a fair increase in numbers, enpecially sheep, and they will at least be more than double, making about 2,000,000 head.
