The suit was begun in Judge Anderson's court, and before the warrant could be served the alleged weducer had left town, Yeaterday he was seen in the city and was arrested and taken before Judge Wright where she young woman appeared against him, Tn the talk which preceded the hearing of the case and in which it was attempted to patch up a compromise, the girl nmg) the nccused were allowed to go off by themselves in a side room, Con- stable Saundors standing at the door. While there he heard a noise within asif a scufle was n progress and opening the door found the two strug- gling together, the man apparently trying to prevent the girl from some violenco. Tt appears that she had tried to persuade him to settle the matt.r by marrying her, and failing had attempted to pull a revolver from her pocket either to shoot her betrayer or herself, and the effort to prevent this laudable design haud resutted in the ecuffls overhead. The dendly weapon, a large six shooter wan taken from the d.sperate girl aud the private conference broken up, In the proceedings which followed the matter was finally settled by the payment of 8100 in cash to tho plaint- iffy and the defendaut giving a bond to support the child, and prevent its becoming a burden on the county. This new dramatic organization wasre- oently organized, and exclusively for the purpose of playing for the beunefit of charitable organizations and insti- tutions, The programme comprised two pieces, ‘‘Ilhe Old Guard” and “The Chimney Corner,” in both of which the principal members of the olub appeared. The principal char- acter in_each piece, namely that of Corporal Haversack in the “Old Guard,” aud Peter Probity in the “Chimney Corner,” were admirably sustuined by Mr. G. A. To the Editor of The Bee: Lnst Bunday morning about 10 o'clock an assault was made on my son, Horatio 8, Krause, at the candy store of L. Brown, No. 1156 8. 15th street, which for contemptible, cowardiceand low brutality, has seldom been equalled. The boy, » lad of abent seventeen years, entered the store, where were Tom Price (formerly of Price & MoDermott, plumbers) Pat O’'Brien and two others, names not known; besides Mr, and Mrs, Brown and their litsle son, and Mr, Andrew Devins. My son then began talking quietly with Mr, Devins, when, without warning oi provocation, he was as saulted by Prioe, the blow felling the boy against show cases and bottles which were broken by his fall, cutting him feartully. In falling he caught an iron weight from the counter, which, however, he had mno chance of using as the assault was followed up by Price—who attempted to strike him with a set of iron scales weighing about fifteen pounds—backed by O'Brien, who struck the boy on the head over Prico’s shoulder. Mr. De- vins caught Pricoand prevented him from using the scales, which would surely have killed the boy. Mr. Brown’s little son ran out on thestreet and cailled the police, when the vahiant Price and his brave gang, fearing the strong arm of the law, got into a wagon and drove off. 'the mean rascality of the gang then showed itself Fy their coming to my grocery (knowing that I had long since quit tho saloon business) and trying to get me to sell them some liquor, hoping to thereby prevent my presecuting them as they so richly de- serve, My son had worked for Price and not being able to agree with him had quit him, upon which Price had made threats of getting even with the boy. I send you this, as I wish the peo- ple of Omaha to know such iofernal scoundrels for what they are, H. G. Kravsg, N. B.—A warrant is out for their arrest, but the rumor is that they have skipped the town. and they have have not been found by the police. SBAD AFFAIR. A uittle Child Dles from Swallowing a Plece of Brass. Ocourring as a singular coincidence with the death of the little son of Mr. Seydell, reported . Monday, is the case of the infant child of Mr. Cook, of the firm of Cook & Isaacson, who re- sides at the western cxtremity of Cali- fornia street, near Thirty-fourth. From what can bo learned it ap- pears that about ten days ago the baby was given a little bell to play with. Cuild-like, it kept working away-at the toy until it*loosened the “‘clapper” or tongue, which was of brass, an putting this in its mouth, it at length, sad to say, swallowed it. Although a physi- cian was called it seemed to be a hope- less case from the first. The child was still nursing, and the mother held it almost coustantly to her breast for four days previous to its death, which occurced on Sunday morning to alle- viate the agony it suffered. During these four days it was in a dying con- dition and sustained only by the life it thus received, On Sunday morning the physician urged the mother not to prolong its sutfering, but to give her child up. Exclaiming, “My God! then take it!" she handed the baby over and left the room, and hardly had she done so un- til the little epirit passed away. The sad details were known all over west Omaha, and never was s0 much sympathy expressed for a family as on this oceasion, The mother is nearly crazed with grief, imagining herself in some way responsible for tho accident, The funeral took place at 2 p. m. Monday. i Army Orders.
