New Vork, May 20, PINANCIAL REVIEW, Events of the week in financial circles were noted chiefly for dullness, so far as stock exchange transactions were con- cerned. Money was easy throughout the week, and rates for call loans ranged from 4 to 2 per cent, Foreiga exchange was unchanged, firm, and rates ¢id not vary materially. Government bonds were quiet, with alight changes, business hiving been re, stricted by agitation in congress over the bank charter bill, Ruilw.y and miscellaneons # were dull throughout, and while the market fluctuated frequsntly between atrength and weakness, the changes were unwsually slight. The market however, held up remarkably well under tha pre- vailing dulln es, the large export of gold and the persistent efforts of the bears to depress priocs, DANK KTATRMENT, The bank statement to-day is unfavors- ble.
