Money was easy, nearly all business on call having been done at 2@4 per cent, Foreign exchange firm throughont. Government bonds opened strong for long date issues and weak for extended bonds, but the former afterwards declined {, while the Iatter advanced a {raction at the close. The whole market was firm, with demand chiefly for fours, which re- covered some. Railway and miscellaneons speculation was very dull, and the volume of business emaller than for any previous day of the year, 'The market was weak in the earlier dealings, declined 1@3} per cent for leading stocks, but later on became firm and recovered part of the de-line. Changes in o few of the specialties were more important, the Maohattan Elevated advanced 5 per cent and the Richmond & Danville stock declining 43@10 per cent. Larger classes of speculators were prac- tically out of the market during the week, most of them having withdrawn from active speculation pending further devel- opments ia regard to crops and exports of gold, MONEY. Money closed easy at 2} per cent. Exchange closed firm at 4 83@4 90}, Governments closed dull and steady. Ments, however, showel especial firmness, and were sold at an advance of jo over last week's figures, Dry goods, carpets and leather wera in moderate demand, and a fair trade in drugs, paints and oils at current prices. There was a faitly active demand for building material of all kinds at quota- tions, has been light at unchanged prices, Horned stock receipts not reported, but they continue moderate, and no material change as regards the general character of the demand or range of values, Hogs continue to arrive in fair quantities tor the season—30 cars reported—and are in good demand, packe s paying 86 90 for good. The flour movement is better and prices firm, Dran and chopped teed is still scarce and in demand at quotations, Vegetables of all kinds are in fair supply at last week's quotations, though the demand has been light on ac- count of the cold weather of the past few aays having checked trade under this head. The receipts of small fruit during the week has been light, the demand moderate and prices fully maintained, Fgge are scarce and higher; sold to-day at 18c. Choice lots sold at 15@18c. or ces advancing. Lemons are in liberal supply and firm, An advanceis anticipated as warm weather approaches, The stock of old potatoes is light, and demand also at quotations, New potatoes are in fair supply; de- mand normal on account of the price— $6 00 per barrel. The local grain market has flnctuated considerably during the week, mostly on the decline, closing as follows over this day last week: Wheat, No. 2, declined 15c; No, 3 de- elined 5c. The Union Pacific Athletic Associa- tion, is the title of the latest stock corporation organized in the city. The capital stock is 81,000, most of which is al ready subscribed. This latest move is an undertaking to put the Union Pacific base ball nine who claim the championship of the west, on a solid footing. They will fit up Lake’s addition, with an amphitheatre and other buildings and enclose all with a high board fence. Besides match games between local nines, tournaments are to be arranged with eastern clubs of established rep- utation.
