A Herdic Line From Omaha to Council Bluffa, | Crossing on Toe or Pontoon Bridg The importance of the Herdics is every day more appreciated by those who are able to use them and in the city over the river they stand very high in popular favor. The street ear line over thore has had a monopoly of the ecarrying busi- neas for 8o long that the reduction en- joyed in the new deal, by which one can ride from tho transfer depot to the head of Broadway for five eents inatead of 15 cents, is generally ap- preciated. The Council Blufts Nonpareil pro- poses & new combination as follows: “Council {Blutfs and Omaba have | some intercsts in - common, and cheap and easy transportation should be en- couraged between the twin oities of the Missouri valley. Mayor Vaughan has come o the front and put §10,000 in a line of Herdic conches. His ex- penses are large, but the entorprise is a grand success. Now, will Mayor Boyd, of Omaha, and other citizens of | that city u.o their influence in having {tho Union Pacific railrond sell Herdic coupon t 8! avel {of the dummy will bo creasnd as the terdic only cha cer no atroet car 1 15 cento, ing asuvin 20 centa on ¢ trip, ticket irom round this city to nd cr Omaha and recurn a L BLz dummy is 80 cents and vi and dummy line 60 cents. Tho sec- ond day that the Herdics ran they car- ried eight hundred passengers, Now if all of them had gone to Omaha via tho Herdic and dummy it would have saved the traveling public $160, From this it can be easily seen how Ierdic coupons if placed on sale will benefit the people. A gentleman of this city proposes someching still better, which is that the prn{molurn of the Herdic line be induced to increase the number of their coaches and run to the river, via Capt. Portor's route, which was grad- ed and bridged a year ago and forms a direct line to the foot of Farnam street. The river could be crossed on tho ice or by pontoon bridges, the channel at present being very narrow. Dr. J. D. Mercer, of this city, has secured the exclusive right to run the Heric coach in Omaha, and it is not known whether whether he intends to put onaling of the coaches this winter or will wait until spring. Tf he could co-operate with the Council Bluffs line and start his coaches from the ferry, or pontoon bridge, the con- venience to the public of both cities would be inestimable. Round trip tickets could be sold at the rate charged in the Bluffs, for twenty-five cents, and at this tigure would secure every bit of travel and really increase the amnount of travel between the two cities, The Herdics are comfortable and easy and would be a great attrac- tion from the start. The following racy wecount of their adventures and tro phiesis dished up by Jim McNulty in the North Platte Telegraph: Omaha prides herself on her erack shots, and respectiug the tournament given in that city, her enterprising journals take paine to display to an admiring world the marksmanship of her sportsmen. About two weeks ago four of that city's “‘best young men” bedecked themslves with the trappings of the chase, procured fire- arms of the latest pattern and most destructive model, laid in, all told, about a thoussnd rounds of am- munition, a few gallons of Slocumb water and kindred liquids, and came to this section of the country for the purpese of exterminating all “the deer contained within ir, Among the in- fernal machines with which they had provided themselves was an Express rifle of the Winchester make, It car ried a 54 calibre. 92 grain cartridge, and the youthful brewer whose prop- wrty it was had about 300 explosive cortridges, This fact he was very roful not to n known, but the tastimony of his companions in arme, aad the observations of our reporter, who tound the majority of the deer they had bagged bereft of horns, cars d legs, proved it beyond dis- pute. The party started north from Paxton & = Ward's 1anch, above Ogallala, and were e accompanicd by Mr. Jas.
