Pete O'Brien Accused of the Crime and Lodged in the City Jail. = - Wirth Arrested at Midnight on the Charge of Seducing the Same Girl, The particulars of a horrible deed which was committed in this city Wednesday were brovght to light in the police court yesterday evening. One Pete O'Brien, a well-digger by trade, who has been in the cmploy of the U. P. compary, was arrested on a charge of having committed a rape on the perscn of Miss Clara Wirih, a girl seventeen years of age, the daugl- ter of Mr. Fred. Wirth, formerly pro- prietor of the Omaha Louse, of this city. Mre. Wirth, interviewed by a Bee reporter, states that on Wednesday forenoon her daughter asked to be al- towed to go to tho Star house, for the purpeee of cleonirg up some rcoms which the Wirths rent to various par- ties by the month. The daughter went to perform the custemary work, but not returnivg at the usual time, was sent for by ber mother. She was not to be found at the Ster house, and Mrs. Wirth, becomivg slirmed, re- quested a prliceman to tearch the varicus houes of ill-repute fur her miseing davghter. This was doue quietly, but without success. Later in the day the mother made another trip to the rcoms, and found her davghter in the rcom of another woman, by the name of Ross. The girl refuced to retarn at this time, but subsequently went home voluntarily, and told her parents that during the day, at about 12 or 1 o'clock, she was outrsged by Pete O'Brien, having first been forced to drink a quantity of liquor. O'Brien, at the jail, denies the charge most ewphatically, but admits that on Wednesday he called at the *‘Star” house for the purpose of collecting a debt from certain parties, but did not see thogirl. Mre. Roes, on a charge of being accestory to the crime, was interviewed at the county jail. She says that O'Brien had made arrange- ments with the girl te meet her in her room for the purpose of engaging her to work for his wife, and, during a conversation between the two to this effect, she (Mra. Rose) left the room and knows nothing further of the matter. The Star house is situated on Har- ney strect, between Twelith and Thir- teenth strects. Tt isan old barrack, the first floor of which is used ss a carpenter shop, while some rocms on the eecond floor are occupted by par- ties of a question ble character. It hos had a bard name for some time ast. Atalate hour last night the girl was found by Judge Hawes and Ben. Westerdabl at the European hotel, and wae bronght to the pelice office, where sho told her story uvec sgaln, and swore out a complaint of seduction against her ocp-father, Fred. Wirth. At midvight Wirth was arrested and his bail fixed at five hundred dollars for his appearance for examinaticn to day.
