The displaye of ripe, julcy and tooth- some fruits will make your mouth water to taste them and your heart yearn to possess them. Beautiful and attractive flowers, the pick cf the con- s ries, the choice of the homes and gardens, enormous and prolific vegetables, will be _attractively dis- played s that they will be pleasing to the eye and tempting to the palate. The bLest band in the county will render the latest and most popular music at all times; the racing will be fast and exciting. _Trotters of note from all over New England, attracted by the purses, ere entered, and the winners of the various events will have to step some to get away with the purse. The fair of today must have a mid- way and a great big open air vaude- ville show, and the county fair has put on this year a program of acts direct from the big time circuit, acts that have never been seen in this vi- cinity, and which combine laughable, thrilling and pleasing acts too numer- ous to mention here. Whatever you do, dom't miss this fair. It's going to be a glorious, never- to-be-forgotten occasion. To appre- ciate it you must see it. The most glittering exuberance of grandiloquent verbosity or polysyllabic expiation cannot properly express the excellence of the New London county fair. BALTIC Miss Campbell Gives Practical Can- ning Demonstration — Loc: Mule Spinners to Play Taftville in Decid- ing Game Today., The demonstration given by Miss J. C. Campbell, county demonstrator, was largely attended by the housewives of Sprague. Miss Campbell was present- ed by Mrs. James G. Burr, vice presi- dent of tke local Red Cross. She spoke on the canning of fruits and vegeta- Dles. She explained the easiest and most modern methods of preserving. Miss Campbell canned a variety of fruits and vegetables and answered Qquestions concerning conservation of the food supply. She was assisted by Mrs. James Burr and Miss Agnes | Brennan. Misees Marte Dobbrow and Louise Drescher distributed leaflets on home canning. The demonstration | closed at 5.30 o'clock. At Natick Funeral Edward_Farrell_and son Patrick | were in Natick, R. I, Thursday at- tending the funeral of Mr. Farrells brother, William Farrell. Deciding Game Today. The Baltic mule spinners will play the Taftville spinners in the deciding game in the weries on the Providence street grounds at Taftvillo this (Sat- urday) afternoon. A crowd of fans 1is place will accompany the Baltic aggregation. The battery for Baltic will be Erickson and Almquist. These teams are evenly matched and local sports look forward to a good game. Hurd and Langlais are tte Taftville battery. Autotrucks in town have been engaged to convey the play. and their supporters to Taftville. Finger Badly Injured. Fred Caron, employed by the Gen- eral Firs Extinguisher company o | Providence as piper at the annex | Baltic mills, was painfully injured Friday morning while setting a pipe in | place at that plant. Mr. Caron was wising a six-inch pipe on a chain tackle when his finger became caught between the chain and pipe, gutting it | badly. Tirst aid was administered and | 1ater a doctor gave the injured member | attention. ~Caron finished the day. | Miss Veronica Rocheleau is working | for her Etrother, Wilifam E. Rochelean. More Censoring. Irvin S. Cobb, the writer, attended the premiere of “Back Home,” his new play written in conjunction with Bayard Vefller, in Boston. Resporid- ing to insistent calls from the audi- ence, Cobb made a curtain speech be- tween the second.and third acts. “Don't biame me for all this” he said. “But I ask you as.a personal favor to stay for the third act. It con- tains the only line that rematns of my original play.”—Green Book Magazine. Some Difference. When brother was three years old he was sitting very qulet on the back porch. So one of the young ladies next door called over and said: ‘What's the matter, Westle, have you a grouch on?’ He answered her right back and said, “No! Pve got a dwess (dress) on.” Yaquis Fond of Music. A noteworthy characteristic of the Yaquis is their fondness and talent for music. They have retained many of their primitive dances, but the cus- tom of tattooing the chin and arms is | mo longer practiced to any general ex- tent. For bad back and weakened kidneys Norwich residents recommend Doan’s Kidney Pills. Read this Norwich woman's statement. Mrs. Harold Vars, 25 Penobscot St. says: “Ome box of Doan's Kidney Pills gave me complete rellef from ter- rible sharp patns across the small of my back. My back bothered me most when I stooped or exerted myself. It was through a friend that I learned of Doan’s Kidney Pills and I was ad- vised to give them a trial.
