Stonington grange met in the church periors Thursday evening. The next meeting in_two weeks will be @ Christmas party. Mrs. and Mrs. John McDowald of Providence have been recent guests of friends here. Miss Mae Plerce has gone to Backus hospital where she enters the nurses' training class. Miss Kate Cronin is supplying at the Wheeler school this week. Billings-Johnson Engagement. Mr. and Mrs. Sanford W. Billings announce the engagement ~ of _their youngest daughter, Priscilla Aden, to S. Parker Johnson, son of Mr. and Mrs, William De Forest Johnson, of West Springfield, Mass. _Miss Billings is a graduate of the Willimantic Normal school. Mr. Johnson is an architect wnd mechanical engineer. Mrs. Seth W. Williams have return- ed frem a visit with friends in Prov- idence. 3 R. S. Wheeler and son, his _sister, Mrs. Oscar Vose and daughter, Miss Irene, of Westerly, spent Saturday at Maple Lawn. Going to Philippines. Mis Ethel J. C. Noyes and mother, who are summer guests here, expect to leave their home in Milford, Pa.,., Dec. 3 for San Francisco where they will attend a wedding. Later they will visit China and Honolulu, returning in the spring. The Road school is closed on ac- count of the prevalence of measles in the district. The Ladies’ Aid society’s sale in Grange hall, Tuesday evening at- tracted a large attendance. There was an auction sale, Frank Noyes be- ing auctioneer and Rev. H. A. Camp- Dell clerk. Over seventy dollars was cleared from the sale and supper. During the evening Miss Grace Ran- dall of Willimantic gave several reci- tations and Miss Ruth Paton, Miss Geneva Stark, Miss Gladys Hewitt and Mrs. Fred Burgess gave plano solos. The G. C. Brown mill property has been sold to Mr. Bixby. There will be a Christmas tree at the church here December 23. Mrs.. Abble Hillery visited her niece in_Olneyville the past week. Mrs. Edith Bixby and her husband were week-end visitors with her mother, Mrs. Lillle Swan. Mrs. John Harvey of Providence is finishing the term of school at the Dorrance district which was began by Miss Murphy, who has secured a bet- ter place near her home in Comber- land.
