s LUBRICATION OF TRACTORS It is the practice of some tractor dealers who are local agents for trac- tors to recommend some one certain brand of oil. This leads the tractor purchaser to believe that unless this one certain brand of oil is used that sthey will not be responsible for any- thing that happens to the tractor through faulty lubrication. The majority of tractor manufac- turers are not confining their recom- mendations of oil to such narrow lim- its and as a rule are willing to list and recommend any high-grade oil- that wgll meet the tests they think advis- able. . Tractor dealers are sometimes in- fluenced by an oil company to impress upon tractor users the importance of a certain brand of oil and of course this dealer does it mainly for profit. This representation is fraudulent and the farmer should be given the under- standing that a particular tractor can be lubricated with other than the par- ticular brand of oil specified by the dealer. 5 Early in the automobile industry the same thing was tried, but the prac- tice has been done away with, as the dealers realized that it was a decep- -tion and would only reflect upon the integrity of the company making such representations. Where a dealer does exploit a par- ticular brand of lubricant, the owners of tractors should write to the tractor . manufacturer direct or to some repu- table oil company direct and get abso- lute proof as to whether or not the claim made by the dealer was true.
