Probably I said they were like the I. W. W., but I really think I had the Populists in mind.” : “Goodby, goodby,” boomed the genial ex-president as he prepared to go to the rear platform, to speak again on the league of nations. “You will find that I am right when you get a little older.” North Dakota Celebrates Lincoln Day (Continued from page 5) ers and their wives, burst into cheers and ‘applause as the vote was announced, 74 to 37, exactly two to one. The League had just the number of votes it needed, with not one to spare. The scores of League farmers who had come to Bismarck to celebrate Lincoln Day and to see the League bills passed, went home the next day. Many of them were the same farmers who had come to Bismarck, four years before, to ask-the 1915 legislature to redeem its promise and provide a ter- minal elevator. They had been told to “go home and slop the hogs.” They had gone home--but not to stay. They came back this year to observe Lincoln Day—and the day after. = And then they went- home again, but with a, different feeling. They went home well satisfied that their representatives were serving them truly. They went home feeling, too, that if the spirit of Abraham Lincoln | had been looking down at the North Dakota capitol, he would have said, to his own common people gathered there, the words: ¢ “Well done.” PRAISES THE LEADER St. Joseph, Mo. Editor Nonpartisan Leader: _ For nearly a year I have been read- ing the Nonpartisan Leader. As. I see it, the Nonpartisan Leader has the “gpirit and pep” to fight for the prin- ciples of right and justice at all times. It is a real, true and loyal champion of the public welfare and democracy and to the best of my knowledge it is the best and greatest educator in de- ‘mocracy in existence today. In other words, it has and delivers the goods at a reasonable price. g Your article, “Who Houston Serves —Not Farmers!” is of no little inter- " est to me, as I know .from experience that Houston has no time or sym- pathy for any ordinary people. His words are evasive and his actions are autocratic. It is a good thing that those people who are made and con- stituted like Houston, are short lived in places of public trust and author- not mix. usefulness to those people whom he is supposed to represent; therefore he should resign, and not embarrass the man who appointed him to his present exalted position.
