; il‘HE MONEY QUESTION : Delta, Col. Editor Nonpartisan Leader: The plan suggested by P. A, Spain of Paris, Texas, in the Leader for December 9, is one of the best yet. If we would stop the interest on our Liberty loan bonds and make them legal tender for .the payment of all debts, dues and liabilities at their face value, we would be helping the debtor class and at the same time relieving the country of an immense war debt. The money sharks would be the only ones to suffer. For years the bahks have been al- lowed to deposit their United States bonds in Washington and receive therefor bank notes which circulate as money. Let us demand the same privi- lege for useful citizens. E. W. LOOMIS. Nonpartisan Leader ECRETARY OF WAR BAKER refused to make any recommendation in favor of universal mili- tary training in the an- nual report which he filed with congress on December 5. That refusal has stung the Ameri- can junkers, led by our political Hohenzollerns and Hapsburgs, to furi- ous resentment. They had counted upon the influence of General Per- shing, the army general staff and the LARGES1 PRODUCERS & DISTRIBUTORS IN N.W. § Every Poultr ' ise @ Should Use My 3ah | Storx INcugaToR; ‘A reliable, trustworthy incubator warking on the same prim':iple ‘as the old hen—that’s the “Stork.” It keeps the eggs warm—an even temperature at all times—by CONTACT—nature’s way. This. is the only incubator made which works in this man- ner. All others heat by radiation, but the hen sfl;s 8l tight, nestling right down on the eggs, and that’s ex- i actly the way this incubator works. : Results Prove It’s Right I want every farmer and pouliry raiser to use my “Stork” this year because it insures a good hatch of strong, healthy chicks—the kind that live and thrive. Two years and hundreds of successful settings have : proven the correctness of this method—it’s nature’s own 3 way. Results are what count and the “Stork™ brings results. They had hoped that Baker's surrender to their attack would be ' followed by an early collapse of Presi- dent Wilson’s opposition. As the case now stands, the president, the secre- tary of war and the chairman of the house committee on military affairs are hostile to the scheme of Prussian- ization of the United States, evem though they resist it silently. "7 “I' have refrained in this report;” says the secretary of war, “from mak- ing specific recommendations for. fu- ture legislation for two reasons. In the first place, the signing of the armistice has not formally closed the war. We have at present a great military establishment which can not be immeédiately dissolved, and the ac- tivities of the department for some time at least must be concermed with what we have. : RESTS WITH PEACE CONFERENCE “In the second place, the peace con- ference is a2bout to assemble and the military needs of the United States can not be prudently assessed until that conference.shall have determined the future international relations of the world. “The department will present to " congress a plan for the maintenance of a, regular army which shall continue as the nucleus of any future military establishment, pending the time when the experience through which we have gone can be digested-and the future n::g.s of the nation maturely consid- €l “In any case it is clear that the edu- --cation of officers and a, constant study of the science of warfare will be neces- sary, and it is my hope that the great military academy at West Point_can be supplemented by :an.enlargement and broadening of the special schools which are at present organized but which should be made to take on more the character of post-graduate courses and to develop and train research specialists in the several arms.
