Coates, Campaign Manager, Fargo, N. D. Dear Mr. Coates: For your information: Mr. Bangs spoke here yesterday from auto to a very small erowd—in fact only three or four farmers were present, and they the regular Democrats in this community. No discussion heard on the streets after the speaking. Evidently no interest taken in what was said. Mr. Burtness spoke here at 2:30 p. m. from auto to about 4Q or 50 people. I sized up the erowd and saw 10 farmers and they all League men, with the exeeption of one or two—in fact the audience was very conspicuous by the absence of the farmers, considering that this is a Republican stronghold. Mr. Burtness spent some time telling the standpatters that Mr. Lemke was not telling the truth, ete. He also stated the call Lemke had made—that is, requesting the committee men to send in their vote—had resulted in giving him over 50 more votes than Baer. He also spent some time telling how much he favored the grades advocated by Dr. Ladd and that the only fair way was to pay for wheat according to the amount of flour it made. At this point I said: ‘‘Yes, and the League was the first to call attention to this fact to the people.”” For a minute this sort of bothered him, but when he got his wind he yelled out: ‘‘No sir! Mr. Ladd! Mr. Ladd sent that out through his bulletins.”’ As a winding up came THE OLD, OLD STORY ABOUT THE TARIFF. After Burtness came Theo. Kalder of Hillsboro. Of course he told us he had always stood for progressive laws ete., ete. Mr. Paulson was also in the ecompany but I noticed that Paulson kept to the side. He did not feel at home here. I have posted the posters sent me. I notify you also that we plan to run 30 inches of advertising in the Tribune Farmer, Hills- boro Banner, Hope Pioneer and the Hunter Herald. We are going to elect Baer with a landslide. Yours very truly, P. L. AARHUS. ADVERTISEMENTS Powerful But Handy The C. O.
