A question in which bondsmen are interesested was decided yesterday by, Judge Donohue, in Su- preme Court, Chambers, in the case of Kittie Brown and Maggie Moore, arrested for larceny from the person in Bostor. They were released on bail, Michael Keenan becoming their bondsman; and then left for Chicago, where Keenai followed them and brought them back to Boston and kept them there at his sister's house, as alleged, four first securing from them at money yy had and then rmitted them to come to this city. On last Wednesday Keenan again caused their urrest, intending to return with them to Boston to surrender thein on his bail bond, but Mr. A. H. Hummel sucd out in their be- half writs of habeas corpus and brought them before the Supreme Court to test Keenan’s rights in the matter, Mr. Hummel raised the point that when the bailsman brought the prisoners from Chicago within perish rerio fd the Superior Court ot Boston it ‘was his duty to. then given them in charge of the pro} ita and that when the bond was forfeited by reason of the prisoners’ failure to ap- pear in court his power over them ended, as there was no bail bond. in existence, Judge Donohue so held, and ordered the discharge of the girls. Worcester, the witness of the previous day, He testified that's decision had been reached to issne eighty per cent additional stock of the New York Central road; when the certificates were being pregared the Commodore said that a cer- tain part should be left blank end afterward written in, sb that the printer could not make use of the in- formation he might thus obtain; the Commodore asked whether he thought the Central road would be able to pay four per cent on the capital stock and on tlie eighty per cent ‘addigicnal capital; witness thought it would; the amount of additional stock ‘was $25,086,000. A recess of half an hour was here taken, At halt-past one all parties reappeared, and the ex- sinination was continued, Mr, Worcester said that he had received some instructions trom the Com- modore relating to the transfer of some shares of the Canada Southern Railroad stock. Commodore Van- derbilt gayé witness all of this stock and a list of names in which he wished to have it put. ‘There were 10,000 to Willian H, Vanderbilt, 1,000 to Cornelius Vanderbilt, Jr., 1,000 to W. Without any warrant being issued or any com- plaint made before a magistrate arespectable idoking woman, named Mrs. O’Brien, of No. 94 River street, Newark, was arrested there yesterday and locked up in a cell on suspicion of being an impostor. She had applied at the soup house for relief, The super- intendent heard she was well off, had several barrels of flour in her house anda hasbaud earning good wages. With tosrs in her eyes and showing every evidence of. ae deep! ne humiliated Mrs. O’Brien stated to the magistrate that nothing but the hardest necessity drove her to the soup house. Her linsband was present and stated that all he had earned since last October was $10 50, He said it cnt his pride, as a respectable mechanic, to be compelled to let his wife go and beg soup, but ‘he had triea and tried in vain to obtain employment. Mrs. O'Brien was promptly discharged. A NOVEL SUIT: A suit has been begun in the Sipreme Court, Kings county, by Charles Dean against Theresa Bell to re- cover $5,000, which the plaintiff claims as a reasona- ble remuneration for services rendered to defendant. It is alleged in the complaint that the plaintiff was employed on January 16, 1878, by the defendant in San Francisco, Cal, to travel with the de- fenaaiit as an escort and to render such services as would conduce to her safety while on a tour through this country and Europe. He alleges that he had to wait on her daily, and was requ: to carry »bout him on his person quarter of @ million of dollars’ worth of jewelry, includin, diamonds and other precious stones, The Sheriff New York, on an order of attachment, is said to have attached certain property belonging to the defeudant.
