Not only exhausted, but previously generated to little pur- pose, if the progress during the week be taken asa Proof of work done, Consequently to-day’s business a8 compared with previous days, shows a falling off, both in amount of trade and in interest. The seventh regiment corner-stone laying and the race meeting at Jerome Park probably helped to make matters dull by drawing away some of tho large operators, who, in the absence of excitement in the street, are prone to betake themsclves to the relaxations of Pools and patriotism. This morning’s market opened Sta fractional advance on last night’s prices, with Michigan Ceatral ag tho favorite, Before the expire- Yon of the first half-hour this stock had advanced fully one per cent, and in the next balt-hour bad lost fraction of it, If the theory be that Mr. Sage is ® proper subject of attack, through a manipulation of this security, it wilt be weil to guard against any coun- terpiots upon the side of the enemy. It 1s universally agreed that sauce forthe goose is very properly fol- lowed by sauce for the gander, so it can scarcely be expected that Mr, Sago will offer himself up gratui- tously as a staffing for the former bird, iu spite ui the bDelief of the street to the contrary. Before eleven o'clock the market had regained its lost ground, but thenceforth became irregular, the trank lines exbibiting woakness, the coal stocks, with Michigan Central and Erie, holding firmly, and the outlying fancies showing themselves strong or the reverse, as orders came in to buy orsell, Del- aware and Lackawap~. and Michigan Central were Couspicuous at the end, as holding up to about the Dest Ogures of the day, while, as a goneral thing, a feverish irregularity marked the rest of the list.
