“PRINCETON COLLEGE REGATTA. SPIRITED STRUGGLE AT BURLINGTON, BETWEEN THE SENIOR AND CREWS—THE LATTER THE WINNERS. m2, SOPHOMORE en One of the prettiest races seen Yhie season was rowed by the crews of Princetou College, New Jersey, op the Delaware River, at Burlingtou, in that State, yesterday. It was tbe regular fali regatta, and, al- though there was only one contest, 1t was in every re- spoct a mostexciting one, Three crews in six-oared abells struggled for tne possession of the silver cup whiob was prosented two years ago by a numbey of the alumni resicepis of New York, and which until yes- terday was in the bands of the class of 778 But to- day 1t belongs to the sepbomore’s crew, or the class oi '80, by whom it was won after a brief though ox- @oedingly close match. It was understood that ihe ilness of some one prevented their taking part ia the regatta, Theretore the struggle was left to the other three; it was the intention of the competitors to have rowed before noon, wind and water permitting, Dut it Was entirely too rough at this portion of the day, and Sherefore tho regatta was detorrea until four P. u The crews and their triends wero the guests of the Oneida Boat Ciub, of Burlington, whose house was Pl.ced at their disposal, and whose members paid Le every possible attention, The men seemed to De im fine condition in the morning; out delays are dangercus to men who are trained down, as was proved by the sudden indisposition of Mr. Warren, of the freshman crew. _ His lace had, therelore, to bo tukea by Mr. Wood- who bad not trained ury, that crew’s **coacb,’? The course was one mile anda half straight away, froin a live of stukes off General Grubb’s dock to another line of stakes astern of the schooner yacht Eva, which was anchored about a cable’s length below the Oneida Boat Club bouse. At four o’ciock in the afternoon there was scarcely ®@ ripple on the Delaware as the crews rowed leisurciy upto tho starting point, followed by tho little pro- peller carrying the reteree, Mr. T. C. Woolman, of the Oneida Club; the timexceper, Mr. Matthew Goldie, proctor of Princeton College, and the judges, Mr. Corwin for the seniors, Mr. Katzenbach for tho sophomores, and Mr. Larkin for the freshmen, The contestants got into position immediately and re- ceived their instructions from the referee.
