A Dull and Drooping Stock Market— NEW YORK HERALD, TUESDAY, JUNE 43, 1876.—TRIPLE SHEET. FINANOLL AND COWVERCIL | te Sales Only 91,000 Shares. GOLD 112 5-8. Investment Securities Lower—Government and Railway Bonds Steady. MONEY ON CALL 21-2 PER Chat, Wau. Strext, Monpar, June 12—6 P. M. Apother moribund market to-day, for which absent operators bave tacitly voted requiescat in pace as a Proper epitaph, There hag been ‘peace’ enough to @ulisty tho aspirations of Ulysses Ouwsar him- sell, but not business enough to satisfy the Poorest plebs of a broker. Fairly strong at the start, it was soon evident that the list was sup- ported by a very insecure underpinning, which was likely to yield to the Jeast shock. This soon exhibited itgelf in the fading away of the price of Central aud Hudson, which, on sales of a fow nundred shares, drooped down from 108% to 105, but closed in a rally Mt 1063¢ a 107%. The Commodore’s brokers were sim- ply lookers on und not supporters, as usual, and a theory prevailea that the ancient mariner was rather too il too look after his favorite or clse that he had come to the end of bis purse, at least so far as this stock was concerned. The more probable solution lay in the report of further reductions in Western bound freights—a reductio ad absurdum, in fact, as there is little or no Western treight to reduce—and a further cutting of fares to Chicago by the Grand Trunk of Canada, Added to this it is confidently stated that somo 30,000 shares are held hero on foreign account, which may be precipitated upon the market any day that Mr. Vander- ‘Dilt’s caso is bulletined us desperate. Looked upon as it has been as the keystone of the railway sharo list any sign of crumbling affects the entire arch, and it was only natural that this should bave occurred this morning, Consequently a weakness set in along the whole line, with a result of @ decline of from \ to 1 per cent. There was a trail, too, in Lake Shore and Western Union which scented strongly of Gould, and considera- ble sales in both these stocks were attributed to his Account. Beyond the continuance of the war, which bids fair to be carried into Africa until some ‘nigger in the fence” is developed which will establish peace and a bull campaign at the same moment, there was nothing to affect Lake Shore per se. It was different, however, with Western Union, for the rival company had another dash at them in the abape of a reduction on all press messages which may be forwarded to the Atlantic cities from and during the sitting of the Cincinnati Convention. Tho effect was not important however, for the stock only yielded about per cent under the pressure. The coal and miscellaneous shares also suffered from the “blues”? in sympathy with the more active fancies, but in a less degree, and the Western stocks may be placed in the same category. ‘As for Pacific Mail it has shown up abou} the strong- dst of the lot, opening at 25, receding to 243; and re- Vurning at the close to 24%. Extreme dulness was the characteristic of the market, although transactions were somewhat moro pumerous than on Saturday. An equal division among 1,040 members of the Board would award avout seventy shares to each individual as a commission producing medium, or in cash, at a fair average, $4 373;.
