The delegates to the Cinclonati Convention have most of them been Interrogated by your correspondent as to their frst, second and third choice for the Presi- dency. It was impracticable ina number of cases to see the delegates personally, but in such cases their constituents or some one who claimed to have knowl- edge of their preferences furnished the information. It should be added, however, that some of the dele. gates themselves are quite undecided as to second and third choice, DELEGATES AT LARGE. Dr. Josera Rounixs, of Quincy, pbysician—I am for Blaine, frst of all. If his nomination cannot be effected, my second chotce would be Wheeler, of New York, aud though not yery decided as to a third choice I think it would bo Hayes or Hamilton Fish. Wonld never vote for Bristow. Rouerr G, Ixcrrsott, of Peoria, lawyer—I have very decided preference for Biaine as my first choice. Mor- ton would be my second choice,. Iam undecided upon ‘a third choice. Grain B. Raum, of Golconda, lawyer—My prefor- ences are Grst for Blaine, second Morton and third Hayes; then Conkting, If the others fail. FIRST DISTRICT. Sipsxy T. Santa, lawyer—I am in favor of Bristow as my first choice, He is the man who should be nomi- pated, We want a candidate thoroughly identified with the work of reform, and honest administration of the government. It might not be politic to nominate Blaine at this timo, in view of the charges preforred against him, Gxonce M, Brogex—I am most decidedly for Blaine asto first choice. Secondly, I am not prepared to speak definitely, but might say that it will be the Great Unknown, and he, in-all probability, will prove Hon. E. B. Washburne, SECOND DISTRICT. 8 K. Dow, lawyer—I formerly lived in Maine and was personally acquainted with Mr. Blaine, I thinks good deal of him as @ man of utility, and at present ho is my first choice. My preference, however, will be a good deai guided by what will geem best for the tnter- est of the repubiican party at Cincinnati, Governor Hayes might be my second choice, Washburne woula come next Jous A. McArtuur, Postmaster of Chicago— T cau see no reason why we should divulge what the dolegation proposes doing at Cincinnati, We were olecied under a Siaine influence, and although not pledged to him there is every probability that the delegation will work in bis behalf, As to the second choice I am not prepared to say anything, not being fully determined, It ts understood that Mr. McArthur will favor Senator Conkling as second choice, THIRD DISTRICT. F.W. Pauwer, editor of the Chicago Inter-Ocean— At present | am: for Blaine, bat cannot tell what may result from the developments now pending before Con- gress. As to the second or third choice I have not yet made ap my mind. Iwill be entirely guided by the sentiments of the other delegates when they aro all assembled at Cincinnati. C. B, Farweul, dry goods merchant, of Chicago, and member of Cougress—My personal preferences ai decidedly in favor of William a. Wheeler, of York. Ihave known him for several years at Wi ton, where we boarded at the same hotel, and |, refore, have had ample tunity of judging of tow. I cannot speak now as to third choice, but shall a Hiei Lis PRescort, lawyer--3f feronce is for Blaine, 1m accordance with the arowed sentiincats of the people of my district. He is much the stroncest man, As second or third choice Morton or Conkling would be satisfactory. I shall not favor any man from the other side of Dixon's line. ; RK RB, Laruam, Lincoln, capitalist-—My choice ts first for Blaine, a4 be ts the strongest with the prene him. Gonves, Marshall, lawyer—-1 think as to avaik ability mv choice among !’residential candidates would bo in the following order:—First, Blaine; second, Hayes; third, Morton; with Conklingand Bristow next, AS to merit, they would stand—First, Morton; second, Blaine; third, Conking. [ think highly of ‘Bristow, and wor like him to accept the Vice Presidency, Bexsox Woop, Etfingham, lawyer—he sentiment of our peopie is tor Blaine. I'am for bim first, as | think he is tho strongest man, Personally would prefer Morton, but doubt his avatlability, Morton, however, would be my second choice, und liayes third. Bristow has little strength among my constituents, Blaine’ Vindication will cause a great accessivn to him, SIXTEENTH DISTRICT. General J. S. Manrix, Saiem, lawyer—Blaine is Mag | decidedly my first choico and that of my district, have a high regard for Morton, but think Wheeler, of New York, or Hayes, of Ohio, as wore available, and either would suit me as second choice, with Morton third, Should General Logan's name be prominently presented I would prefer him to all others. Geoxce C, McCorp, Greenviile, farmer—My prefer- ences are: first, Blaine; second, Morton or Washburne; third, Hayes. Those expresstons are contingent upon the concition that General Logan is not a candidate, whom | would prefer to any. SRVENTRENTH DISTRICT, H. S. Baxsgr, Alton, Judge of Alton City Coart—My first choice 13 B. H. Bristow above all others. If he cannot be nominal then I should favor Washburne or Morton. Washburne will be my secoud choice if he 13 before the Convention, I am opposed to Blaine, and would prefer Conkling or Hayes to him. General J. 1. Rixakxx, Carlinvillo, lawyer, 1s first tor Blaine, then tor Morton, and then for Conkling, KIGHTRENTIC DISTRICT, Isaac Ciewenta, Carbondaic, tawyer—My first choice for President is Blaine, The Infernal war on him should impel republicans to stand by him to the ‘Jast moment. Farther than for Blaine as first choice lum not decided and decline to express an opinion. Wituiam McApam, Chester; banker—{ will simply say to youthatlam for Blaine first, Blaine second and Blaine third. You cau understand that, NINETEENTH DISTRICT. C. D. Haw, Mount Vernon, banker—My first choice is Blaine, and { shall support him as long as {hero is hope. Personally I}ike Morton, but think Blaine strong- est among republicans; shall support Morton second, and for third choico £ would prefer Hayes, of Oni, to either Conkling or Bristow. 'W. H. Routxsoy, Fairfield, lawyer.—I am first for Blaine and shall stand by him if he can be nominated, I should support Morton second, and after him have no. definite choice, but would probably be for Hayes, WISCONSIN. SENTIMENTS AND PREFERENCES OF THE DELEGAs TION FO CINCINNATI MiwavKkg, June 7, 1876, Tho following is a report of tho sentiments ant pref- erences of the delegates trom this Stato to the Cincine nati Convention :— DELEGATES AT LARGE, PuLervs Sawyer, Ushkosh—I am and always have been for Blaine and believe the republicans of this State favor him to-day. Blaine is my first and only choice, I nover make a second choice till the first trade is off. As long as there is a chance of nominating Blaine I shall not disturb myself with speculations about a sece ond choice, Blaine, I believe, is genorally regarded, and justly, as a persecuted man, and is now asa vindl~ cated man. I have never lost faith in him. I believe tho republican party ‘s firmer for him to-day, in cone sequence of that persccution, than it would otherwise have been, I have nothing in my mind as to Morton, Bristow, Conkling, Washburne or the other candi dates. I do not foe! called upon to express any opinion astothem. If Biatne fails to obtain the nomination we shall try to finda fitman, If Blaine is nominated the republicans will carry this State. Indeed, Iam not ‘sure but we can carry the State for either Bristow om Conkling; but we cortainly can for Blaine. Have noth- Ing to say about the Vice Presidency, except that tho his abilities and character. in accordance, however, with the sentiments of the Springfeld Convention { shall vote on the Orst ballot for Mr. Blaine. No in- structions were given at our Convention, but there was ap uumisiaxi teaniag toward the latter gentle- man. If a Soul Tepublican were nominated and a first class democrat 1 ain iree to say that I would hesi- sate in my choice a8 to voting on electionday, It would be a mistake to nominate a Southern man, We see the offects of giving the Suuth a full representation in Congress atthe present time, Why, Coniederate generals, somo of whom ought’ to be in prison, control that body. If the democratic party should succeed in capturing the government all Southern claims for indemnity duri: the war would be rushed through and our national debt quad- rupled. 1 tell you, sir, this isthe main issue of the present canvass. It is folly to suppose that the Southern people forget the injuries inflicted Ep them by us at the North as results of the war. They hate us more cordially than ever. [¢ ts vot im human nature to forget and gloss over such injuries, If a Southern mab were elected President to-morrow be would natur- ally lean toward his kindred, Souther (ademnity clits would not be vetoed if they passed bot branches of Congress. It ts time for the people of this country to look upon those issues in a proper spirit. The South does not care for the currency, the tariff or any other question. She only wants to get control of tho wheels of iegislation, that claims of this character may be paid over to her impoverished eitizons, YOURTH DISTRICT. W. Corvix, a Batavia banker—Although personally for Washburne, | shall, in deterence to we views of the people who send me, support Blaine first and do what I can to secure bis nomination Would ve for Wash- burne next if 4 compromise can be mate upon him. After that would be guided by circumstances, but evuld bot support Morton or Conkling. G Ep, E. Ayers, Harvard, capitalist and 8] or— First choice, Blaine, and will stand by him, After Biuine would favor Morton and Hayes, but ts not for Bristow. FIFTH DISTRICT. ALuser WALKER, Suliman'’s Valley, farmer—I am for Blaine, because the people are for him. Persgnally ] would preter Conkhog, as | stadied and practised law with him and know him thoroughly. Am not decided as to a third choice, RL Bexcueis, Erie, merchant—Shall use my vote and influence trat tor Bhune, and if be cannot be bomi- pated then for Washburne. For a third choice would be for Hayes or Wuevier. Personally | would be for Washburne first, but would obey the wishes of my constituents, who are for Blaine. [ could not support SIXTH DISTRICT, A. R Mack, Camoridge, woula support Blaine first, and is Undecided as to second and third choice, but well gieponed to either Conkling of Morton. J. W. Hoexixs supports Blaine strongly, If bis nom- ination shou would require consideration as oO other candidates. SEVENTH DISTRICT, G. N. Currtexpes, Joliet, merchant, is for Blaine first of all and as long as is name is before the Coa. vention, After Blaine, and as a second chotee, provers Hayes. Eyocu Emery, of Pvoria, editor of Peoria Transeript— nomination for the Presidency will control that quea ton. ‘ +Davip ATwoop, editor and proprietor of the Stat Journal, Madison—This gentleman had left for Phila deiphia, to visit the Exposition, over a week before the reporter’s visit, and was not expected home before the delegation left the Stato for Cincinnati, Mr. Atwood ig astrong Blaine man. Ho wrote the following to his paper from Philadelphia, dated 20th May :— “As the time of the republican Convention ap- proaches there is considerable interest excited on the subject of politics. The several candidates for the first nomination have warm friends, who are pressing their favorites with becoming zeal. We have been a some. what attentive observer of events, and \t does appear to ‘us that Mr. Blaine has, by far, the greatest numbor of supporters with the masses of the people. Possibly this impression may exist trom the fact that he is out individual preference for th ; wo think not. He is a recognized le: man; full of energy, and ripe affairs, Such a man is wanted at thi erument at this time. The people have confidence in Blaine, and | believe he would be the strongest candi- date that could be named,” Mr, Atwood has not been heard, so far as [ could Jearn, to express pretereuce for any other person, or to say anything about secoud choice, He is understood to favor Bristow for Vice President, and to be # unit with the other embers of the Wisconsin delegation is willingness to a¥cept (ne candidate who can be shows to be stroager and better than Biaine, if Blaine’s nom- ination becomes clearly impossible. MARK DovGLas, State Senator, farmer and lumber- man—My frst choice, always supposing he turns out all right, is Blaine. [f he fails. ag at present advised, Tsball go for Bristow. I shall be guided by my own observation at Cincinnati, aud cannot pledge myself absolutely to any one tor either first or second choice. The latter ts not much Known ip the State, but he ts highly spoken of, vist pistRIcT. Eumv Exos, Postmaster, Waukesha—Blaine was my first choice until yesterday (Juve 2), but since the publication of the facts as to the letters taken trom Mulligan | have felt pretty blue, but do pot yet despair of his coming out all mgbt, Mulligan was probably bought and paid for to testify against Baine, any way, and Blaine ts, beg ge ver; much wrought up by the attacks on him. I think if unloriunate .or Biaine’s reputation that he went to see Mulligan at ail. lL always cousidered Blaine onc of the Dest candidates we could have for tho Presidency of accouut of bis personal ingegrity und political wb, | If he can clear his record he is wy dret chor Conkling would, probably, be my second; but it de. pends on circumstances. Conkling ! regard as a great tan in every scose. He would bea stroug candidate, For second place on tl jckot@ migut support Hayes, No matter which way te affair turns out | shall give my support to the men who will, In my judgment, be the strongest betore the country. Jauke Binriiry, editor and proprietor Janesyilie Lam jor Biame, first, last and all the time, as loug as Where is any prospect of nominating him. I cannot tell who I should favor for secoud choiwe. We want to uomimate Blaine, but if we cannot shall tako the I should not favor Brisvow, Tuomas Born, of Lewiston, lawyer, is personally for Bristow a8 a first choice, bat will probably support Blaine Ww defereuce to his constituency, neat Bristow aud then either Wheeler or Hayes.
