0 THE EXHIBITION. BEDUCTION IN THE CHARGE FOR ADMISSION TO CHILDEREN REQUIRED—-THE EXHIBITION TO BE OPEN UNTIL HALY-PAST SEVEN AND THE GROUNDS UNTIL NINE P. M. ON SATURDAT— OPENING OF THE BREWEKS’ BUILDING. Paitaperraia, Juve 7, 1876. One of the mistakes of the management—! will not call it a blunder, though it may become one—is to charge full price for the admission of children. Fit cents is not too much for an adult, but a child of ele or twelve ought to be admitied to the Exhibition for twenty-fivecents, There are comparatively few children Been on the grounds, for the obvious reason that Parents cannot afford to take their families at the present prices. Yet the young people have a very sin- cere and patriotic intercst in the Centennial, and would, if the rates were reduced, contribute largely to the revenue. This mistake of having no half price for girls and boys is one which should be speedily cor- rected, The summer holidays are drawing pear, and there should be during July and August thousands of intelligent school children om the grounds daily. The exclusive policy is not merely unjust, but injurious tothe Exhibition, ‘Large sales and smail profits” ts a3 good a motto forthe Exhibition as it proved to be for the inte Mr, Stewart’s dry goods store, and it is to be hoped that tho Commissioners will recognize the truth, THE KARLY CLOSING SYSTEM, There is another point to which the managers will be soon required to give their attention, and that is the early closing of the grounds. The gates are shut at six o'clock, just at the time when the aiternoon {s cool pleasant to stroli under the trees. Practically, Stops tbe inspection of the varios depart- t half-past five P, M., and, of course, deters ments thousands of people from vi iting the grounds, As the days become longer the toll wil become more perceptible. 1t is possible that the exbibitors mignt be put to a littie trouble by the prolongation of the hours of admission, but it ls to be remembered they would derive a benefit irom the increased attendance. Besides this there are but three or four thousand exhibitors and there will be miliious of visitors, and as tho latter are expected to wake the Centennial successful it seems fair that their sonvepicnce and interest should be the first consid dou, In fact there 1s no reason that I can see why the of the promature closing eriuclpal builuings should not be open ull’ ten o'clock at night. ‘The maiu building can be lighted, and that with perfect safety, and so it is with the Art Gallery. There would be no dan- fer ot disturbance from lawless persons, It is to the onor ol Philadelphia and the glory of the Exhibition ‘Uhat thus far there has beon uo disorder and no drunk- enpess upon the grounds, and under a good police rule there is uo reason to expect any in the evening, Under the present system there are (00 many hours wasted And too much money lost. OPENING OF THX BREWERS? BUILDING, Arriving at the Exhibition the Congress proceeded mediately to Brewers’ Hull, where the formal cer monies of opening took place, President H. H. Reut sailed the delegates to order and announced that al- though the project.was inaugurated at the eleventh sour yet tho work had been successfully accomplished. He then introduced Mr, Henry Clausen, of New York, the ex-president, who, ina short addross, related the difticuities encountered in the prosecution of the work. He said:—*We have met here to-day tor the purpose of dedicating this building to the special exhi- bition of a branch of industry which in the last cenvury bas made herculean progress in Europe, und tu the last quarter of a century has risen in this coun- try to be one of the largest interests in the land anda On the this city to 1 building of neces and apparaius of our trade. As the time for erecting the building was short and funds too, the gentlemen present decided to in- augurate the work und to rely upon their colleagues for assistance. To-day the committee hand over to Pos this building, containing a collective and compro- ive exhibition of the trade.
