TuuRspay, Dec. 3—6 P. M. The merchandise markets were stifl irregular, the demand being in most cases exceedingly moderate. On 'Change flour Was firm under a fair export inquiry. Wheat was in fair demand, but holders demanded very much higher prices, in view of which business was greatly retarded. The sales were nevertheless fair, and at higher prices. Corn was likewise higher, but quiet. Oats were active and decidedly higher. Whiskey was firmer. Pork was dull. Lard was firmer, but not very active. Cotton was quiet and unchanged for spot, while future ruted a shade firmer. Groceries were auiet, with the exception of sugar, which was more acttve and firmer. Freights continued strong, both on the berth and for charter. Petroleum remained duly and nominal. Naval stores wore neglected and wholly nominal. Corrom.—There was but # moderate demand for spot cotton, and holders were rather more disposed to sell, especially in the afternoon, when it was impossible to getexporters to make considerable bias, as tney could do better at the South, notably at Charieston and Savan- nah, and the market for spot cotton closed dull, with more sellers than buyers at the appended ouotations, which, while showing bo change as compared with yes- terday, are t some extent nominal.
