BOARD OF ALDERMEN. S@xa4mination of Estimates for 1875 Con- cluded—An Increase of $207,730—Ad- @ition tot the Public School Fund— Teachers Salaries—Commissioner Neil- son Before the Board. At two o'clock yesterday the Board of Aldermen continued their examination of the estimates for 1875, ag submitted vy the Board of Apportion- it must be recollected that the Aldermen have no power to alter the figures, but can only suggest amendments, which go back to the Board of Apportionment, leaving it entirely optional with that body as to adoption. The Board went into Committee of the Whole, with Alderman Billings in the char, Acommunication was received from the De- partment of Parks asking for an appropriation of $20,000 for the support of the Meteorological Ob- servatory and Gallery of Art, which was reterrea tor the action of the Board of Apportionment.
