The Killing of Mrs. Kendrick—Who’s Responsible ? Several witnesses were on Saturday examined be- fore Coroner Herrman in the case of Mrs. Kendrick, late of 75 Second street, who, on the 30th ultimo, waa knocked down by a runaway horse in the Bowery, at Bond street, and injured in such a man- ner that she died soon afterwards, Mr. Louis J. Chamberlin, Keeper of the Bull's Head stables, testified that he reevived twelve horses from the New Jersey Central Rallroad Company about tivo weeks ago; they were sent for B. B, Blakeley; on the 20th ult, the witness re- ceived an order to deliver the horses toa man, whose name is John Bianely, who paid the bills for keephi the horses; it was one of those twelve horses that ran aay. and killed Mrs, Kendrick. John Brobyn, a | Lexington avenues, and there saw Sidney Buek, whe said he was employed by Mr. Blanely to exer- cise. horses; while the witness was there Mr. Bianely told Buck to harness a horse to take Mr. Bianely home; he harnessed a horse and hitched him toa wagon, when Buck, a boy named Stimp and the witness entered the wagon, but the horse would not start; Stimp aud the witness got out of the wagon and taking the horse by the bridle tried tostart him, but he would not go; suddenly the horse made a jump and started towards aaxe avenue; at the corner of ‘Twenty- fth street the wagon tipped up and threw Buck out; the horse ran on the sidewalk to Twenty-third street, knocking down two or three men; he ran into the street aud down Third avenue on & run; the witness pursued the horse ag far as Seventeenth street and saw a man in the ‘wagon; continued down and in the Bowery; heard @ Woman had been run over and injured. Owing to the absence of the boy, Buck, and also Meaers. Blakeley and Biancly the farther inveastt- n._of the matter was adjourned till next Thurs- jay. Itissought to be proved by the relatives of deceased that the horse was a vicious and danger- ous animal, and wholly unsafe to be entrusted to the management of boys. . It is desirabie to place the responsibility where it properly belongs. THE SELDON MALPRACTICE CASE. ‘The examination in the case of Dr. Seldon, of 67 Amity street, charged, in conjunction with Jennie Sharp and Abraham Savage, with having performed am abortion ou Barbara Vass, of Jersey City, was continued before Justice Cox, at the Jefferson Mar- ket Police Court yesterday. Assistant District At- torney Sullivan appeared for the prosecution and James D. McClelland for the defence. Dr. steele, @ police surgeon attached to the Mercer street station, appeared and testified that he had examined the complainant on the night of Seldon's arrest by Captain Byrnes, and was confident that delivery | by malpractice had been produced on her, in con- sequence of which she was and is physically in- jured. He produced several instruments used by Malpractitioners, and stated froin the description given by the complainant that Selaon had operated On her with one similar to that produced im Cour The defence claim that the woman was not pre; nant, out was only sufering froma severe coid. Seldon and his companions are stiil locked up at the Jefferson Market l’rison, in consequence of Jus- tice Cox refusing to admit them to bail pending the examination, ie complainant is still detained at the Mercer street ee station, and has several times been visited by her sister. Her mother, who she states advised her to visit Seldon’s and have the operation periormed, has not been near her since the atfair was made puplic. The examina- tion was postponed until some dy during the coim- ing week. KILLED AT LAWRENCEVILLE, N. J. Charles Gaffney, who had been employed on the fallroad for twenty-four years, was killed Saturday morning, near Lawrenceville station, by the seven o'clock train from Jersey City.
