The Superintendent, not caring to take upon himself the responsibility of deciding such @ momentous question as this application of the fur ones seemed to invoive, deiermined to re-er it to the Exccuttve Committee, which he did yesterday afiernoon, but up to a late hour last evening it was Impos=ivie to ascertain from any reliable source what determination they came to in the premises, if any at ai. SCHOOL TEACHERS’ ASSOCIATION. The regular monthly meeting of the New York Association of Sunday School Teachers was held last evening in the Fourth Avenue Presbyterian church, corner of Twenty-second street, and was very well attended. The opening exercises em- braced the singing of ahymn, reading a portion of Scripture and @ prayer, after which the minutes of the last meeting were read by the secretary. The President thén futroduced Mr. Robert Carter, who gave a syort Address, He spoke of the difference beiween Suiday schools in th's country aud in Burope, and, with an experience of forty years of Sunday school labor, thought the American plan of Sunday school in-truction, with @ plentiful sup ply of books, the best. And, speaking of books, he spoke of the Bible, Hé believed at ought to be read chapter by chapter consecut.vely from begin- ning to end by every one, and sail he was often shocked or pained to dis- cover that per-ons of intelligence whom he met hae neyer done so. The address closed with an appeal to the teach to push forward in the good work. At the coucluston of Mr. Carter's addross Mr. Phelps sang, by request, a solo—“Scaticr S.eds of Kindness.” Rev. Mr. Gans then spoke at con- siderabie length upon the importance of teaching doctrine to children, and in the course of his remarks Sa!.! every Sunday schoo! teacher ought to be a theo- logidh. The Rev. Albert D, Vail was next intro- duced by the President. He spoke very lenzthiiy upon the subject of prayer meetings for children, confining himself almost exclusive! y.f0 his experl- ences in the matter, The most tmpoitant thing was, he said, to impress on the mind of the child that theve is no Ajference in child piety and adu.t piety. Oue of the peculiar featuyes of the neeting was the “question box,’’ which was passed for questions any of the audience chose to write. Quite a number of questions were dropped into it, and the answers to them given by Wells gave evident satisfaction to all present, Sliortly aiter ten o'clock the meeting adjourned, “LISTEN TO THE MOCKING BiaD.” George Williams, a brunette, about twenty-three years of age, while standing in front of the residence of John J, Chambers, No. 207 West Tweifih street, is morning, listening to the waroling of his mock- bird, valued at twenty-tive doljars, concinded he Would like to be the possessor of the b rd, and mak- ing # gra» started on a run with the cage, bird and fil. PATALOTS. An Appeal from General Jordan to Ludies of tho City of New York. The women and children of Cuba are well nigh naked. The greater part of the chiidren are abso- lutely without clothing, and many refined women, brought up in afMuence, are reduced to a single, threadbare ga°ment. This extreme destitution has come upon them because their families, for the most part, had to leave suddenly thelr homes in the towns and cities, with little means of transportation. The few aritcles of clothing they were able to carry m thelr flight having been worn out after eightecn months of war, they have been unable to get othera, for, meanwht'e, all commercial intercourse or trade with the exterior world has been utterly cut off. The Junta in this city, aud other friends of Cuban iberty in the United States, have necessartly con- fine. their efforts to the procurement of arms and munjtions of war for the patriots, and that under su. premely discouraging obstacles. It has been simply impossible for them to send clothing for the women and chiidren. Knowing this fact, and satisfied that the actual state of affairs in Cuba need only to be made clearly known m_ this city to insure immediate and complete relief, have not hesitated to appeal, nm ths way, to that large spirit of practical generosity ana char- ity for which the peopie of New York have ever been conspicucus, And { do 80, confident that those who poured out their means to relieve the suilering people of Ireland and Crete will not jail to provide decent clothing for the women and eldidren of au American people, who, under every aspec! deserve their moral and material aid, The very remnants flung aside im the stores of this great city would go very iar towards the reltef I invoke, Yo the ladies of New York I will now leave the or- ganization of all proper measures for the col.ection or the necessary resources for the charity I ask at their hands, ey will best know how it can be soonest and most thoroughly accomplished; butt will be ready to co-operate with them in such man- ner as they may desire, THOMAS JORDAN, Astor Housk, New YORK, May 16, 1870, “DEATH FROM LOCKJAW. ‘The remains of Mr. John Blackburn, whose death resulted from rather singular circumstances, were Interred last Sunday at Trenton, N.
