THE OCEAN B: BANK ROBBERY—AN IMPOSTOR, On Wednesday evening detective Farley, of the Central OMice, returned fromm Utica, where he had been to take charge of a young Englishman, about twenty-one years of age, named John A. Williams, who had been arrested by the Chief of Police of that city on suspicion of being concerned in the recent robbery of the Ocean Bank. Williams ciaimed that he was one of the persons engaged in the robbery, and said nis accomplices were Charles Pores€ and Henry Ferguson. He gave as an exe cuse for divalging the secret that his cone federates had played fuise with lim and refused to make a falr division of the spoils: that he nad been acquainted with Forest and Ferguson five or siX weeks previous to the commussion of the vurg- lary. There was an air of improbability and wu- truthfulness about the rambling statements of the prisouer, and perin- vendent Kennedy, as well’ as detective Farley and others, totally digelieved al! he said. Accordingly, yesterday afternoon, Willl was taken before Alderman O’Brien at the fombs and discharged from custody. The motive of Williams for causing his own arrest and makiug the above statements is unknown. He apparently is mexpertenced tu crima and by some be is believed to be insane.
