MAYOR'S OFFICE. pe ee eens Last week was a remarkably bus¢ one at the Marshal’ department, and besides the tssuing of licenses some 600 complaints Lave been heard and adjudicated upon or iufermation and advice given to the complainaussand defendanw, The rnd daily 80 crogded with complainants, witnesses, spec- tators and others that ladies are obilged to stand. Marshal Tooker and his assistant, Major Hart, dis- pose of the business before them in remarkably brisi style; yet the crowd is ever ohanging and the want of accommodation is made painfully ap- parent, ‘hg Mayor's Court has become an estab- Uushment and should at once be furnished with suita- bie rooms by the city fathers. The desired rooms are @t their disposal aud they should make no delay in providing proper quarters tor an istitutton which bas already been productive of so much good in the metropolis, to citizens and strangers, and for which thore can always be found work enough. Among we amusing cases was that in which THB HAZARD OF THE DIE was the primary cause of the complaint. A healthy looking Teuton walked up to the Marshal's desk and after bidding the Marshal good morning, sald:— “Zur, | vants dat | gate zum invermashun pout dese dings, 1 geebs a blace und av gote a mon vot gollex dose peels vur me, und he go by dat par rom down dis vay, shast over dare, see, und de mon dare he say dake a trink, und den he zay gum on ve drow dose dice dot ve see hoo dreat de grout, und all de dime de mek dot my gollector he git shtoock. Marshal TookER—i'm sure | ad know; you drank it; don't you know what it is? CoxpiainaNt—No, sir! {ain't no judge of cider} Marshal TooxzR—I should think so. Itell you we—me and my frind—we jist asked for two glasses of cider and he charged us Uurty ceute— thats lifteen cents a glass. ‘The Marshal toid hin to find out if the man was licensed, and iH he was not to go to 301 Mott street and make a complaint to the Board of Excise. A BRACE OF SHARP LAWYERS, known as A. 1. Reavy & brother, have come 1n for a severe overtauliug. Some seven or eight com- plaiats have been made against them for malprac- tice. The gentiemen im question were sent for, and they appeared at the Mayor's office, and seemed to treat the matter as @ good "joke. “ne man, Jonn Kellneyer, of 403 Thirty-secoud street, left his watch and cham as @ retainer, but says Le has heard noting of any proceedings being tasen. Jolin O'Hara, of West Forty-fourth street, charged Reavy Witt passing a bad ten doliar bill on nim A Mr. Peter Neerus charges the Reavy Brothers with swindling aa out of some $1,200 or $1,300. Officer ficuratn was despatched with the compiaivant in each case and succeeded in getting back the money, During last week, in the Berean of Perm.ts and Inspection and for the issuing of licenses direct, under Marshal Daly and Mr. G. W. Morton, the busi- ness has been remarkably vrisk.
