MLUCITARY NOTES, The Sevent) regiment will to-morrow (Monday) @vening celebrate the eighth anniversary of its de- parture from this city to the defence of the national capital in a manner befitting the occasion. The regl- ment ts to assemble in full dress uniform at the @rmory, when Mayor Hall, on behalf of the Corpora- tion of this city, will present the command with a new stand of colors, The parade will begin at eight ¥. M, precisely. Members in full dress and ladies accompanying them will be admitted without tick- ets. Every effort is being made by the various com- panies to make the occasion one long to be remem- bered. The armory, it is said, is to be decorated with flowers ‘from top to bottom.” There will be a promenade after the presentation. The Forty-seventh is to have a promenade concert ‘on the 13th of May, a military critic says to “inaugu- rate” the completion of the repairs to the armory. How the completion of the repairs can be inaugu- rated is rather a piers fe Talking of the Forty-seventh regiment, Colonel id E. Austin was made the recipient some, time nce of @ set of epaulets anda sword belt, Com- pany E were the donors, Reap apie of the First brigade, General Postley, has sustained the appeal of Second Lieu- tenant t Henry Abel, First regiment cavalry (who was artialed some time ago), in as far as the Penalties for “not accepting the office of first Heu- tenant upon being elected thereto,’? and for not ac- counting for ball tickets, which the appellant averred he never received. ‘How on earth any court martial, composed of officers of average intelligence, could have imposed a penalty on an oiticer for such @ thing as refusing to accept an office tendered him, and not accounting for ball tickets, is more than most ost Bo le can very well understand. ‘The brigade nder hitg the nati square on the head when 0 688, in his special order relating to the case, that «‘tt would be more creditable if some officers accept- office for which they are wholly uulitted had e grace to decline.” The commandant of the Fifty-fifth regiment should be a little cureful in his general orders to say just exactly what he means, In an order just issued Telating to the new Dili of dress for the regiment the following sentence appears:—‘‘Any members of this command failing to appear hereafter at any drill or Parade in any other than the bill of dress adopted as above shall be returned to court martial and shall be subjected, accord to the code, toa fine of not More than twenty-tive doliars or less than five dol- lars for each offence.” According to the above any meember of the rogiment who appears in the new Uniform subjects himself to a fine of not more than twenty-five dollars or an amount less than five dol- Colonel Wilcox 1s to be tendered a serenade by the Ninth regiment on the evening of the 21st dost, at his residence in Park avenue, near Thirty- Dfth street. The regiment will, the same evening, have a drill at the armory, to be followed by a “moonlight parade,’ moou or no moon. The ruth iment—Jeferson Guard—will parade to-morrow (Monday) in honor of Jefferson’s birth. day. The regiment will be reviewed at the City Hall by the Mayor. There will be an election for the Moe tion of major inj this regiment on the 6th of May. Coes Meyer intends to resign next month, He jas been connected with the regiment fourteen yeare Sergeant Major Ingebrand has been elected second Meutenant of Com nees. D and Lieutenant Krinm faptain of Company 4. The Third brigade wi be ordered to parade for field movements next month. Should Tompkins juare not be in a proper condition for drill the Commissioners will be petitioned to grant the use of a portion of the Park for the drill, Of course Mr, Green won't refuse. Jacob Fuchs, chief of line caissons, Battery K, First regiment of artillery, was ejected’ sevond lieu: tenant of the battery on tho 14th inst. Second Lieutenant Tate, Company G, Eighth regi- prent, has been elected first lieutenant, and Sergeant rns second lieutenant of the company. The Twenty-third regiment will have a full dress inspection and review by General Meserole on the 6th of », Which is to be followed by a promenade con- cert and hop. ‘The Veteran Association of the Seventy-first regi- ment will hold its first annual banquet on the 2ist instant, at the Hoffman House. No person not a “subscriber” will be honored by a “teed” on the Occasion. Right! On the 17th of next month Battery K, First regi- ment artillery, will have a full mounted drill at ee square. Now, then, Captain Heubner should remember how his battery fired of its guns #0 full charged last year as to break the windows of the houses adjoining the square. Are we to have the game performance over again? ‘The Brooklyn ran (the Forty-seventh regiment) will have an exhibition drill on Monday, May 13. Lieutenants Jobn H. Gear, of C company, and Robert Henderson, of G company, have resigned. Eawin H. Johnson has been elected First Licutenant of D company, John Eaton First Lieutenant of A com. ee sean E. Barnes Second Lieutenant of company. An election to fill the office of colonel of the Sixth regiment infantry, made vacant by the resignation of Colonel Steinway, will be held atthe armory of the regiment on the evening of the 23d inst. There fre several candidates spoken of, but it is more than Probable that a selection will be made from the ofMicers of the regiment. In reply to & communication asking for his oMctal opinion A the subject Adjutant General Townsend decides, with General Shaler, that ‘ail officers, of whatever rank, serving in whatever corps or arm of the service, shoula wear shoulder straps of dark Diue cloth.’ The Second brigade wiil @t Prospect Park next mouth, Foc ART NOTES. The Journal Ofpiciel of Paris publishes a report to the Emperor, from Marshal Vaillant, Minister of the Emperor's ‘Hoamshoia aud Ping Aris, on the N National Museums of France:— His Excellency shows by a ated retdm from the Superintendent of the Department, Count de Nieuwerkerke, and which 1s appended, that the paneer statues, antiquities, &c., have during the fifteen years increased m number about 45,000. During the reconstruction of @ part of the Tulleries and of the Louvre a great number of those objects were placed provisionaily in the Nm ge but as the alterations in the two palaces now ter- munated the space to be devoted tot the fine art galleries, comprising in all 142 rooms, can be calculated With exactitude, The result is ‘that there will remain @ considerable surplus of artistic Lag for which there will be no place, The Minister, consequence, proposes that these latter aout be distributed among the departments to those |i towns which have made praiseworthy efforts create jocal museums, onurich those they formerly possessed, and restore their ancient charches and Fronaments. His Excellency, in conclusion, sug: goats the appointment of a commission com; i of the Superintendent, with le members, of whom six are £6 bé chosen from mat State bodies and the same number from t .. cadewy of Fine Arts, le for fleld exercise for deciding on the preparatory measures of selec- tion and directing aad aap the carrying out of this proposal.
