MUSICAL REVIEW. ‘Wiilam Hall & Son publish a very handsome piano €dition of the opera of “Lurline,” by William Vincent Wallace, Is is ow over nine years since we heard this chef @urre of the English opera in Qovent Garden, where it was fret produced tinder the direc- tion of the lamented composer, It was prodaced in the grandest possible style and took evén the most inveterate opera-goers by storm. A more lovely Musical interpretation of an attractive, interesting romance could scarcely be found in the entire range of the lyric arama, The story 1s one of those Wid Jegends of the Rhine which have been eagerly ecized upon by dramatists and presented in nearly every city of note in Europe and America under some form or other. The music is on the Meyerbeer scale of grandeur, with the addition per- haps of more exuberant melody in every number. Wallace was not only an accomplished coutrapun, ‘tist and sweet melodist, but he had the rare faculty besides of developing to the fullest extent the quali- ties and combinations of the instruments of an orchestra, Situation, character and feeling are brought out by him into strong relief by making, for the time being, each instrument a character in the drama which be desires to Ulustrate. Over these bold outlines of instrumentation he has thrown o veil or mist of delicious melody which gives them a softening tone such as a great limaer communicating to the work of his brush and pencil, First comes the skeleton of the Instrumentation, béld, grand end impressive like that of the Mastodon or Beho- moth, Then the salient points are rendered stil more promiuent by master touches here and Shere Where the strings, the wind or brass instru- ments are made to Hoty wad might say ejacn- late, With startling, lifelike e! ‘This Pd ee ine mM x = ‘which when heara tor the ‘ret ezqua was eung, pl ed and whistied wherever a mosiolan, nae ls np need to ural or educated, comid be foumt, speak ot the overture; ti has been o tavorite au the concert ball hore, Taltke: overtures it iemot a but bas an Derg, awakes his % berg, # ako spirits wit! 3 paninent ju sy fn, reheat eee iia sere Trt of teio: atid eae Dromisin; ‘The bari whick dramatic et first female tae NEW YORK HERALD, SUNDAY, APRID J6,, 1860—QUADRUPLE, follows, 1 would be aimonlt to match tt in MATES, French cs ae oyer] eee mere EUROPEAN MARKETS, | t Schr Minnie Rinne, Green, Grorgctown, Do. ‘ork . a jewbury, Baltimore, "“ oo Bn, pet Lom ines nagtere <Founow, Apri i7—se | SA WAN vicreoo, Cray ¢ CY, i da bone Jane (B0, fir tite nae ane ta arte the fees AL one for money aud 03% | RokrJobn F “hole Bal leo waneiiy of the ‘ietody” are principally, Femme tox¢ | for tbe account. “tia | Staten dvectweuty bonds, | gebr A Kater, Yong Ballmer 4 A = acc Mayhew, | for, San ging, Vigorons drinking chorus DAY ‘oinaist | 8h eae meady; Erie, 24; Illinois Contrals, 00%. | Sehr Herschel, Chamberlall: yiStimore, ees Gn Sos ae &ting Mis not like tne enervating, Weak ott ¥3 ea reeesgne Bourse 13 | Sehr $3 Fort, Fort, Balt” og, . 1p Wakein Gener sap organ ke iienngon Of the Italian opera, Dut has the trae ring and #0 arp BOURSE,—PARI, April 17.
