Money is comfortable enough; call loans, 6 a 7 per cent, the latter being the rule among brokers; mercantile paper, 5% a 6% for the best names, Considerable sums of money are coming here from Philadel!piia and other towns in Pennsylvania and the West for safe keeping and employment. A quantity of gold and diamonds also arrived here this morning from the same quarter. Gold opened this morning at about 1475;, but fell off to 14624 on a rumor that General McClellan was to replace General Haileck in command of the armies of the United States, Ata later hour go confirmation of this story could be obtained, and gold rose again to 147, 14694, 146%, closing at five P.M. at about 1465{. Exchange was lé2a@ 163, with only a moderate increase. The stock market was inactive thie morning and the course of prices irregular, The number of speculators is very large, aud people with large sums of money stand ready to operate as soon as they can vce their way clear. But at present so much uncertainty existe with regard to the design and probable effects of the invasion of Pennsylva- Bia that people are all hanging back. Harlem epeued at about 95, but fell to 94 on the action of the Aldermen annulling the repeal of the Broad- way Railroad grant. It may seem anomalous to outsiders that Harlem should rise 30 per cent on the repeal of the grant and fall on the repeal of the repeal. But people who sold the stock short understand the reason. Erie was steady this morning; Readtng rose 2 per cent, Pittsburg %, Hudson River 2%, Rock Island %. On the other hand, Cumberland declined 1 per cent, Fort Wayne | ¥, Brie preferred 4, guarantecd 4%. Pacific Mail ‘was very steady. Governments were lower, and Btate stocks were also heavy. After the board the market was called steady, There was very ttle doing, however. In the afternoon the mar- ket was very dall and tame, and prices were gene- rally a fraction lower. Hudson River, however, rose to 143, cash, while It was offered at 14, sell- er thirty, and 131, seller sixty. The shorts in this Stock have enffered as severely as the shorts in Harlem. A letter from Pittaburg states that in conse quence of the interruption of business on the Pennsylvania Central all the produce Brought from Ohicago over the Fort Wayne road is sent north over the Cleveland and Pittaburg, and thence east over the Atlantic and Great Western and Erie to New York. Arrangements are being ms by which thie change of route will involve but little delay. Meanwhile the change is giving the Erie about as much business as it can manage; and July and August, which are nevally dull months, will probably show as large receipts this year as the spring or autemn months. The Sub-Treasurer gives notice that he will eon- tinue to receive subscriptions for 6.20 bonds at par antil let August. It was the intention of Mr. Chase to have been here on Monday; bat the critical state of affaira has kept him at Weebingtom. Its assets are largely in ex- cers of its liabilities, and the officers of the bank are re- solved that no one who hold the notes of the bank shall be a loser thereby. The New Orleana Delta of June 25 thus notices financial matters in that city:— Our local currency has recovered to a considerable ex- tent from its perturbed condition last week. Ip our lust we did but little more than bint at the uneasiness mani- fested by the hoiders of the notes of some of our banks. The order of the commanding general, requiring the Pank of the State of Louisiana to go into Nyuidation, has been withdrawn, for reasons most satisfactory, the commission sppointat Under the order having reporied the affaira of ‘bank to be in good condition and the general mauage- ment of the institution such as 2. The notes of one or two other banks are rather in disfayer among a portion of the public.
