NEW YORK, HERALD, MONDAY, APRIL, 2 fave been paid off, decayed tracks and other structures have been repaired or replaced, sink- ing funds have been filed up, and now the rail- way interest stands in such a position that well selected railway investments are really the safest and most lucrative in the country. All the great companies are flush of money, and the only ques- ‘tion among managers is how much shall be imme- diately divided among stockholders, and how much shall be expended on the roads. The Rock Island and Toledo have just paid dividends; the Central, ‘Galena, Michigan Central, Reading, &c., will con- ‘tinue to pay as usual on the appointed day. And in June or July next several stocks which have ‘been unproductive for years will take their places on the dividend payiug list. The Brie can hardly help paying 3% in Juno; the Pittsburg will proba- ah pay % in May-or June; if satisfactory ar- ieuts with the Great Western are effected for a wird rail to Chicago, the Fort Wayne may pay something this summer out of its net earnings of 18 a 20 per cent; the Southern guaranteed will pay five per cent in July, and possibly the common stock may receive three per ceut at the same time, if the business continues as good as it is, The Chicago and Northwestern, which has the bright- est future of all the Wisconsin roads, will this year Tesume payment on its entire dcbt, and next year the stock will probably hecome dividend-bearing. ‘Our railway securities, ao long neglected and des- tpised by investors, now bid fair to become more ‘popular than avy other securities in the country. ‘ CITY COMMERCIAL REPORT. ‘Catounpay, April 18—6 P.
