The fdople will expect, hoWever, that the Legislature should call at least some of these institutions to account for the shameful manner in which they are assisting the present inflation of prices and insuring a frightful crash hereafter. There is no change in the money market. Money is worth 6 per cent on call, and 6 a7 for the best commercial paper. Certificates of indebtedness fell off, with other government securities, to 9424 this morning. ~ Gold and exchange were both very dull to-day. The former fluctuated between 132% and 13234, closing at 132% bid. Exehange fell to 1453/4, at which price the demand was very light. A retarn to a sound financial policy would cause gold and exchange to decline rapidly. The feature of the stock market this morning was the decline in government securities, which was based upon the Cabinet imbroglio at Washing- ton and the possibility that a zadical Cabinet might be installed in office. The coupons of 1881 declined 1 per cent, and the seven-thirty notes 13, At the clove of the first board a rumor that Mr. Seward had agreed to remain in the Cabinet caused seven-thirties to rally to 101; at the public board, at fonr P.M., they sold at 102 and closed at 101% bid. All classes of railroad bonds were firm, and in some instances better. It seems sin- gular to see the bonds of the New York Central and Erie railroads selling at 115 and 116, when the six per cent bonds of the government, which are a first mortgage not only upon the Central and Erie roads, but upon all the other property of the people of the United States, are barely maintained at par. Railway shares were lower this morning. New York Central declined 34, Erie 3;, Hudson 34, Michigan Central 4%, Southern old Y%, Galena \, Toledo , Rock Island }{. Pennsylvania Coal ad- vanced 1 per cent. At the call of the public board, at one P. M., the market was ratber tame, with the exception of Erie and Toledo. At the second board governments rallied on the news of the restoration of Mr. Seward to the Cabinet. ‘The general market was ® shade stronger, in sym- patby with governments. At the four P. M. session of the public board the the market was without change of importance except ia governments and Erie, which were active and stronger. The closing quotations at 6 P.
